I just stumbled across The Internet Pinball Database. It gives some interesting info on thousands of pinball machines.
One of the eeriest sites out there, though I cannot explain why:
Wow, the Blair Witch Camera!
Fun art!
The Earth Impact Database which shows the location etc. of all known impact craters on our planet.
Webcams! The Mount St. Helens Volcano Cam!, and The Internet Webcam dashboard!
this site is the only one I know of that rivals SD in every way
ps check out ytmnd.com for a database of ‘rip offs’ of this site that people made after it came out three years ago (this database is maintained by the guy who made the original)
And at the homepage of the guy who invented the original yourethemannowdog.com, you can see his webcam, an explanation of how he came up with and made the site, and even a recorded conversation with Sean Connery about the phenomenal website he had at some point in Summer 2003
I know of no such site
Wow! That’s really great. You can do anything there.
While I guess this is arguably “entertainment,” the broader scope of the question leads me to move it from Cafe Society to the forum called “IMHO”…
Wow, we’ve gotten this far and nobody’s mentioned:
Lileks’ Institute of Official Cheer
yet?
I must remedy that at once!
For photoshoping, without all the nonsense of fark.com, go to http://www.worth1000.com/
I’m deeply ashamed to admit this, but I know I’m not the only grownup who spends an inordinate amount of time on Neopets, right? It’s like a tamodachi, you pick a cuuuute little pet, you feed it, love it, play games with it, etc. You can put it in the arena and play cockfighting seizure monsters, or you can play the games they have, which are fun and very cute and great time wasters, or you can build a mercantile empire. It’s all totally free, as long as you don’t mind the fact that it’s you and a bazillion preteen girls. (The advertising is scary - for a while I was harvesting a bunch of neopoints a day by taking the “Secret’s Strong Women Who Sparkle” quiz, which advertised sparkling deoderant by asking you tough multiple choice questions like who’s the first lady?)
Not particularly broad in coverage, but I think the subject of this site qualifies as awesome.
The Stumbleupon engine recc. above is really good, and is the kind of thing I was looking for, so thanks. I also looked up ‘500 Most Popular Sites’ in Google, and was directed to Alexa Web, a company that keeps track of internet traffic. They have a list of the 100 most popular English (or any other language) sites for free, or the 500 most pop. global, or they sell a list of 10,000 and 100,000 global for 1,000 and 2.5 thousand dollars resp.
I guess an internet business is what would buy this. I’m not so interested.
But in my quest to see as much of the internet as I can, one day I might buy this list, is what I mean.
Cause there are supp. 5 billion sites (see this) and even if you only spent a second looking at each one w/o stopping for anything, it’d take you 150 years.
My last post went to the same place as one by Biggirl. :smack:

Thanks to BugMeNot.com, I can read all the registration-required newspaper articles I want.
If you fancy learning about an utterly fascinating sport, go here.
Be sure to check out the forums, especially the paddock club, and if you have any interest in chatting to a bunch of barely civilised reprobates try joining the chat:

Don’t worry, F1’s actually a very small part of the discussions there, we discuss every subject known to man and a few that shouldn’t really be, and its the one place where I spend most of my time online.
Come one, come all!
