B.B. King

Sung to the tune of You’re gonna miss me little baby SRV

It’s a bitch bein’ a bitch, baby
Bustin’ ass and takin’ names

It’s a bitch bein’ a bitch, baby
Bustin’ ass and takin’ names

Givin’ hell to all the asshats
Writin’ memos and assignin’ blame…

They be tryin’ to run me ragged, baby
not enough time left in the day

They be tryin’ to run me ragged, baby
not enough time left in the day

But when the li’l hand cross the five
They ain’t nothin’ go’n make me stay

Wow. Just – wow.

My managing editor plays Dobro in a roots band – ya think I could interest him in performing this?

Hey, you’re the bitch… make him do it.

'Twould be very cool if they actually peformed it …

Actually, the song is Empty Arms. Don’t know why the hell I thought it was the other.

Here is the song.

I play Empty Arms on acoustic (again, can’t get the band to play those darn “boogie” numbers) and it can really work that way…

too funny - if your buddy doesn’t it with his roots band, you have to record it!

Forget about which BB King album to buy–you need to see him while he’s still alive. He’ll be in your neck of the woods in March. You can pick up the recordings anytime.

Advice accepted. I’ll be seeing him at the Keswick (my favorite 1200-seat venue) on 2/29.

Bump to report that I saw him last night – oh my god, does that man know how to put on a show. Two solid hours of great music and wonderful joy.

He is indeed the consummate showman. Hope to have the chance to see him again soon.

Couldn’t agree more.

I had the pleasure of seeing him - 10 years ago - in a small & unfashionable Danish town that you’ve never heard about (Skanderborg), at an open-air festival deep in the beech forests. Around mid-day - the sun was out, the beer was cold, the crowd was slightly hung-over, perfect conditions.

B.B. played most of his set, asked for a chair (“I haven’t been this hot since I worked the fields in Alabama”), and then asked a local guitar player (Henrik Skriver) to join him on stage. Henrik - who’s really just a local guitar player, albeit a good one - jammed with B. B. King for about 20 minutes. He later told an interviewer that he’d been asked to join B.B. for just one song (“The thrill is gone”), but apparently B.B. liked what he heard and kept saying “play one more, boy…”

To top things off, the concert ended up going on 45 minutes longer than planned, which is basically without precedence in that venue. Pretty amazing.
