BA492 aborted windy landing. Crazy oscillations?

that looks like a dangerous system to have if a plane is near stall.

did it help or hurt in the video?

do all airliners have this feature?

For stall recovery the roll spoilers won’t be deployed because you hold ailerons neutral.

The flight controls are designed around having ailerons and spoilers, if there were no roll spoilers the whole system would have to be different so I don’t know that you can say they helped or didn’t help, they’re just there. In failure cases where the spoilers are not available the aircraft feels sluggish in roll.

As far as I know they are common across all passenger jets and some turboprops. At high speeds ailerons can become ineffective and even cause roll reversal as they start to twist the wing, spoilers don’t suffer from that problem.

You could disable the spoilers by turning off the hydraulics but I don’t know why you would. The A320 procedure for an uncommanded extended spoiler doesn’t call for shutting them off.

A couple of posters on PPRuNe who claim to have inside knowledge have said the autopilot was engaged at the time. If so, I expect Airbus will put out some kind of memo to operators sometime soon.

thanks for the explanation.
