For future reference in lit-geek threads, this discussion would be a pretty good illustration of the concept of “irony.”
I always thought bab-ble. The Tower of Bab-ble. A bab-ble of tongues (understood to be a “babel” in reference to the story, and not a “babble”.)
The only place I heard “bay-bel” was in the Star Trek TOS episode where all the diplomats are assembled on an asteroid “code named ‘bay-bel’”, and that pronunciation always bugged me because it seemed wrong.
What say the British? Do they say ‘bay-bel’ or ‘bab-ble’?
It’s Bay-bel in English. Like label.
Bab-ih-lon. It’s a different word and gets pronounced differently.
