Babes in Arms: Plot Summary, anyone?

Okay, so my school’s winter musical was (finally) announced today, after much contemplation on what it would be. The show? Babes in Arms. We already had auditions, and I did pretty darn well, if I do say so myself, but the cast list doesn’t go up till Friday.
I like musicals but haven’t seen a whole lot of them, and I was wondering if anybody here could give me a quick plot summary of the show. All I can piece together so far is that it’s about a group of plucky kids whose performer parents are having trouble financially. The kids then decide to put on a vaudeville show of their own, to raise money. Somewhere in there is a bigoted southern financer and a sherriff.

Is there any more to it much? Is it very funny, kinda funny, not funny at all? Entertaining? Also, are there any particularly good parts that I should pray for? (Not promising that I’ll get em, but hey, everybody needs a goal).

Any help is much appreciated.

I suspect that having seen the movie will be of little help, as Hollywood was known for completely rewriting B’way shows.

Good luck, kid—go out there and wow 'em!
