Babies Taste Lemons for the First Time - video

What’s the matter baby?

It’s funny how conflicted most of them seem to be.

<tries lemon>  :dubious: <tries lemon again>  :dubious: <repeat>

I could have made one of those videos. I was at a restaurant with some friends and I had ordered some iced tea. And their young son wanted the “orange”. I tried to tell him it was a lemon not an orange but he kept asking for my orange. So I figured why not? and handed it to him. One bite taught him the difference between a lemon and an orange.

My daughter did that…took a bite of the lovely, lovely lemon slice, did a full body shudder, and then took another bite.

But the fruit of the poor lemon is impossible to eat!

My older niece was about 18 months old and discovered lemons when we were out to lunch at a restaurant. My sister took the lemon out of her tea and set it aside. Niece grabs it, chews on it, and makes this horrible face. Niece then busts out laughing and chews on the lemon again. She still likes to chew on lemon wedges.

Lemons are a beautiful bright cheerful yellow which attracts attracts the eye. Many toys are yellow. They smell lovely. But if you were expecting something sweet when you taste one for the first time, they are quite a surprise.

Here’s some kids trying foods for the first time in ultra-slow motion.

Great video, thanks for sharing

I love the variations in how they respond after the shudders. Some of them stare at the fruit with a wtf expression. Some look to another person for feedback. And some look thrilled, what a rush.

My son does that too; big vigorous bite, screwed up face, shudder, startled look at the lemon/lime/orange, etc… lather, rinse, repeat.

And he’ll get pissed off if you swipe the lemon wedge, thinking he’s not enjoying it.
