Baby Boomer Questions WARNING TOUGH!

  1. Jackie Gleason’s punch line at the beginning of his variety show? (might be 2 of them)
  • How sweet it is.
  • And away we go.

Thank you for the link! I figured that remark was made somewhat off the cuff. Or that it meant “Don’t trust anyone who was born after [19??]”, as opposed to some Logan’s Run life-ends-at-30 policy.

Much as I get fed up with the baby boomers sometimes, I get equally fed up with people who refuse to acknowlege all the societal changes that generation wrought, on the strength of one quote, which I did suspect was taken out of context anyway.

What, exactly, was a “Buffalo Springfield”, before it became a band name?

And the next line: “C’mon and taste me!”

Doral cigarettes, I think, weren’t they?

My guess: A Springfield is a type of rifle, maybe a Buffalo Springfield was a type of rifle used to hunt buffalo?

Regarding the Perry Mason question, I have heard – a la trivia quizes similar to this one, or maybe it was one of Cecil’s columns – that Perry did in fact LOSE one case on the show. I do not know if it was against his regular opponent, Hamilton Berger.

If he did lose, and it was against HB, then the OP’s question would be faulty.

A piece of farm equipment (http://www.rootsofmotivepower.com/html/Collection/BSGasRoller/BSGasRoller.html, http://www.amiright.com/names/origins/b.shtml). One of the band members saw the name on the machinery and took inspiration from it.

Perry Mason:

From here: http://www.mysterynet.com/tv/profiles/perrymason/

I think it was an identical twin case, I’m trying to track it down.

More details from: http://www.geocities.com/TelevisionCity/9348/perry_mason.htm

More info, the episode was “The Case of the Deadly Verdict” which aired on 10/17/1963.

A “Buffalo Springfield” was a “steam roller”, used on asphalt paving. (so I’m told)

What was Robert McNamera doing before becoming Secretary of Defense? (think: irony)

From whence “Don’t blame me - I’m from Massachusetts”?

Tang [sup]TM[/sup] was the breakfast drink of ______________ ?

What toy was pulled from the market due to its propensity to imbed itself in childrens’ skulls?

“Over, Under, Around and Through” what?

Name the littlest Mouseketeers

Dobie Gillis’ beatnik friend

NASA. The Apollo crew. Something to do with astronauts and so forth.

Jarts?

Maynard G. Krebs.

Alluding to Richard Nixon’s 1972 presidential election victory. He carried every state except one: Massachussetts, which McGovern won. Hence, only those from that state could not be blamed for Tricky Dick’s perceived bad policies.

Astronauts, of course.

Lawn darts

Bob Denver, who went on to be forever identified as Gilligan.

I’m afraid I don’t know the others from Extraneous’s post, although I’m sure I’m going to :smack: when I hear the answer about Robert McNamera. I know I’ve heard this before.

Most of the questions in the OP were ridiculously easy (to me, at least) but as more questions get added they seem to be getting more difficult.

IIRC, (and maybe I don’t) McNamara was head of GM…or was it Ford? Does that ring any bells for you richardb ?

Chuck (the Rifleman) Connors played pro basketball for the Boston Celtics way back when.

He was the first man to break an NBA backboard. The game was held up for an hour. The Celtics lost that game to the Chicago STAGS!

I used to be an NBA fan,but never have I heard of the Chicago Stags. The things that google up out of the depths…

The littlest Mouseketeer was Cubby Corkran (sp?)

Mouseketeers: Cubby and Karen (aw, aren’t they just adorable?!)

McNamera: Ford hand, among his responsibilities (according to legend): the Edsel.

Yep. Astronauts, Lawn Darts, Bob Denver, 1972 election

and an easy one: circa 1970 (maybe earlier) aerosol cans got new propellants. What was wrong with the old one?

Back to the Mickey Mouse show: what were the names of the dudes who lived on a ranch and got to ride horses all the time?

Spin and Marty? Not sure, those two names popped in my head for some reason.
