Baby hummingbirds!

I live in Tucson, and hummingbirds are a pretty common sight around here. But last week I noticed a tiny nest, about as big as a hen’s egg, in the bougainvillea near my front door.

And today we see two tiny beak sticking out of the nest! Great excitement in the house. Although we have to be careful since if we open the front door wide it would knock the nest.

If anyone wants to walk me (gently and carefully) through the process of posting a picture online, I will do so since I want some help identifying the species. And whoever can correctly identify the species of hummingbird can have some pomegranates from my tree as soon as they ripen.

Can you get pics of humming babybirds?

To post pics, the easiest way would be to get a (free) account at Photobucket or Flickr. (Why not both?) Save the pictures to your hard drive. Go to the photo site and click on the Upload button or link. Choose the photo from your hard drive. Upload. Easy-peasy!

Aren’t the little buggers cute? We had a nest last year in a palo verde (no, not you) in our courtyard. It actually had four egs, really tiny. Forgot how long it took them to hatch, but once the babies came out, we just climbed a stepladder some distance away and watched through binouclars.

You do know, don’t you, that AZ has more species of hummingbirds than any other state?

Enjoy.

I have a shutterfly account, does it work similar? But how do I link to a specific picture?

I am going to get in early without even seeing it, and call it either an Anna’s hummingbird or a Black-chinned hummingbird. I really have no idea, but I want me some pomegranates!
