Okay. I knew the word “bruxxing” before two days ago, yes. I used to have the normal domestic sort of rats and mice. Although I did have to look up whether it meant the same thing in mice as in rats; I’m pretty the late lamented Alba and Sophie didn’t do that. (A relatively intelligent-sounding person on Yahoo Answers says only some mice brux, so if s/he’s right that would explain it).
His eyes opened!
Not all the way, it looks like, but they’re open.
Aww, could you take a non-flash picture without scaring him? I didn’t have any info to help you out, but I was following the thread and keeping my fingers crossed for the little thing.
My dad tried taking some pictures- he was wet at the time (today the pet store should be open, which means I can finally get proper water dispensers) so he looked liked the proverbial drowned rat, but if you want I can ask for them. (Actually, his fur dried like that and I don’t have comb small enough to smooth it, so he still looks like a mohawk mouse). He really is cute- he’s sitting in my hand bruxxing right now.
Sounds like the little guy has a chance thanks to you. The name Chametz gives me a chuckle, like he’s half of a Jewish Itchy and Scratchy duo. Maybe you should rename your cat Pareve. Or perhaps you should have named your adopted friend Moses and one day he will lead the other mice to freedom
Pretty please? ![]()
thank you for your kindness to one of earth’s creatures
Am I the only one in this thread that would be more concerned that a family (or many families) of mice were present in my home?
I would be more likely to feed him DeCon than milk… /shrug.
My dad is trying to find some place to download 'em. He also took some new ones.
Eh. We’ve had mice before. We also have cats.
And like I said, logic isn’t in full force here. I saw a helpless baby, I couldn’t leave him.
You do the deed that comes before you.
You kind of get resigned to it if your house is old enough and mousey enough. About all you can do is keep the numbers down to a reasonable level. Just because you trap them doesn’t mean you feel good about doing it – which translates into the occasional act of mercy if you can relocate one alive (or, in this case, nurture one and then, presumably let it go in some nice hopefully hawk-free meadow).
Hey… Hawks gotta eat too! ![]()
Awww thanks Malleus & dad, for the pictures! So tiny…
I completely understand the irrationality of having to save a little thing like Chametz. I have to get rid of the mice we have, but they’re so pretty and it always makes me sad.
One time I set traps, and one got caught but not killed. It was squealing in pain and fear, so I put a paper over it and whacked it with a hammer. Just broke my heart, they’re so pretty and sweet. I used to have to do that with a brick, in the hotel where I worked, because they used glue traps. I hate suffering.
So you take care of your little mouse, spoil it rotten and set it free somewhere nice. A bit of irrational compassion is just what the world needs.
Yes, but you want to avoid this kind of situation where you release the poor creature and it instantly becomes part of the cycle of nature… It’s all about the deniability.
Ouch. I can empathize.
Eh…if you have a house, you’re going to have mice. Not necessarily all the time, but you can’t keep them out forever. We have two cats, so they generally let us know when one has taken up residence…and more often than not they take care of any uninvited guests before we ever lay eyes upon them.
This thread has made me feel good! Than for saving the baby.
Personally, I would have a new pet…
Are those two links posted above in response to hawks nasty or nice, in the nature-bloody-in-tooth-and-nail point of view?
Otherwise I don’t want to click them, cause I like the vibes from this thread.
Also, Happy Passover!
Looks at pics. Yeah, I’d have tried to save it too.
Good on you for being so creative and keeping it alive. The first time I opened this thread, I thought Chametz was a goner. Wild baby animals are pretty hard for a layperson to keep alive.
