Baby names - another thread.

My baby will be a girl. Or should I say is a girl ? What is the right thing to say?

Just found out at the ultrasound.

My wife wants to name her Jenessa. I want to name her Goldie. My wife rejected all the other name suggestions that I had.

Why Goldie? Jenessa Gold sounds kind of cool, to me anyway. I know a little girl named Ella Blue [last name].

I know a Michigan fan who named her kid Maizey Blue (maize and blue),

Jenessa sounds fine. Goldie makes me think of a Jewish grandmother from New York City.

How is Jenessa pronounced?

If I were about to have a daughter, I would name her Scheherazade (Sherri for short). If you approach names as self-fulfilling prophecies, this wouldn’t be bad…a woman who survives by her wits.

Haven’t you learned to stop asking the Dope about this stuff yet? As a group, we don’t like anything.

More seriously, I don’t like either one this time around. Goldie does indeed sound like the name of a 70-year-old Jewish grandmother, and Jenessa just doesn’t do it for me. I’m not against made-up names on principle, but it sounds like nothing to me.

Goldie sounds like someone’s golden retriever. I’m not thrilled about Jenessa either, but at least it sounds like a person name and not a dog name.

If your wife likes Jenessa, maybe you could try finding a name that you like that shares similar qualities, i.e. starts with a J, has a feminine ending, or something like that.

Not crazy about either either.

“Goldie” has got to be so firmly associated by the actress of the same name that I can imagine people asking why you named your kid after her and your child on the receiving end of the same question ad infinitum.

“Jenessa” sounds like an unhappy amalgam of “Jennifer” and “Vanessa” that just doesn’t work. Reminds me of a student whose parents wanted to pay homage to the two grandfathers of their son and named him “Jimothy”. Seriously.

Sorry, but both are bad.

“Jenessa” is not absolutely the worst name ever, and at least it sounds like a girl’s name, but it still sounds made up. It sounds like you just couldn’t decide between Vanessa and Jennifer and decided to go with both.

“Goldie” is a name for a dog, not a little girl.

You people are crazy. Goldie is a name for a fish, not a dog.

Talk to the Duggars. I’m sure they have some extra J names available.

Out of curiosity – and maybe I’m a leetle afraid to ask this, but – what were the other names you had in mind? And why was the kibosh put upon them?

Say what you will about some of the names blinkingblinking has suggested - and I’ve liked some of them, but not everybody has - he’s being very thorough.

Baby names - Time for another thread.

IMO, some of the names in the second thread that **Marley **linked to are much better (Cosette, Amarina, Mizumi).

But you’d better act fast. Those names won’t last long.

I don’t know if was originally made up, but Janessa, with an “a” is a fairly popular name among Portuguese families here in San Diego.

If you want to position your daughter for Hollywood rather than the Supreme Court, Jenessa is OK.

Goldie suffers from nickname-as-name syndrome. I’m not a fan. I’d rather see her named Marigold, with Goldie as a nickname. Also, do you know for sure she will be blonde? Because Goldie as a name for a brunette or redhead would really be off.

Howzabout Platinummy?

I had an aunt Goldie. It was short for something, but I can’t remember what. She’d be about ninety if she were alive.

I give both names a thumbs-down. You have any other ideas, blinkingblinking?
