My wife is pregnant. Kid #2. Kid # 1, she got a cool name, Everly. We went to the hospital with several other name ideas, for a boy or girl (my wife and I like to be surprised) and none of them worked out when my daughter finally showed up.
Anyhow, we need some fresh name ideas. Probably going to go for the “surprise” again. If you feel like throwing a name in the pot, boy or girl(or both) I will see how they fare against my wife and her somewhat raging hormones. I currently have a somewhat strongish favorite boy name, Jonas, but as you can tell because of my daughter, nothing is set in stone.
Lets hear some good names. Bad ones, too, if you swing that way.
Everly is a cool name, and congratulations to you both!
I’ve always liked Nicholas for a boy. It became popular again in the 90s but has fallen down quite a bit since then so he’d be unlikely to be Nick #3 in his classes.
I don’t think you can go wrong with Alexander for a boy, or Elizabeth for a girl. Classy, classic names with a variety of diminutives.
Nothing to do with this, but the female name “Vashti” is in the Bible, and I have never heard of anyone, famous or not, with that name. There’s no nickname I can think of, other than “Vosh” - maybe that’s why.
It’s a really odd name for a child. The queen who wouldn’t appear naked for the entertainment of the king’s friends? And was banished? And inspired the King to write a letter to all his vassals instructing them to dominate their wives properly?
I mean, you can dress up like Vashti all you want on Purim, but it’s a hell of a name to saddle a child with.
I love Alexander/Alexandra. My nephew is named Jacob which I also think is a perfect name.
Vashti has a nice ring to it. Norah was on our last list. Nick is my cousin, but otherwise a good name. I will have to check out some 1890’s names. No Vera though. My SIL did not name one of her daughters for almost an entire year because she was fighting with her husband about the name Vera (family name on his side).
BTW, my wife gave a thumbs down to Gilgamesh. A couple actually.
I love the name Vashti. I remember reading the story of Esther in the Bible and thinking she had admirable strength to stand up to her husband the king. I don’t understand why she is considered vain for not wanting to be ogled by her husband’s friends.
I always read the baby announcements, and there is a strong trend right now for old fashioned girl names, From the last few months I’ve come across the names…Cora, Jane, Emma, Josephine, Cornelia, Nancy, Daphne, Claire, Elaine…
