Baby's Own soap discontinued?

My fiancee introduced me to this wonderful soap - it is extremely gentle, and non-drying. She has been using it for years, since anything else seems to make her break out in a rash. Lately I haven’t been able to find it in the stores, and doing a quick google search, it seems like it has been discontinued! We’re not sure what to do now - her skin is so sensitive. Does anybody know for sure if Baby’s Own is discontinued, or has a secret source for obtaining some? Or any recommendations for other soaps to try?

I know that Goat’s Milk Soap smells exactly the same as Baby’s Own.

It seems so. This site used to carry it, but the button says discontinued:

I swear by everything Chagrin Valley makes. Based on what you say, you guys might want to try to try the Castile and Calendula baby soap. All the ingredients are listed (and they’re all pronounceable!) so hopefully you’ll be able to find a suitable replacement.

I’d agree that Castile soap (meaning soap that uses olive oil for all or most of its oil) is very gentle. It’s one of the only soaps I have seen recommended for babies. I found a site that says the ingredients of Baby’s Own are the following:

I don’t recognize all the ingredients but (assuming this is an accurate list) it looks like your soap is made mainly with tallow and coconut oil (which can be drying in large amounts) with added glycerin and aloe vera juice. I believe titanium dioxide is added to give the soap a brighter white color and Tetrasodium Etidronate helps prevent “soap scum.” Tocopheryl Acetate appears to be vitamin E which is used to help keep the oils fresh. Sodium chloride aka salt is sometimes added to soap to make a harder (therefore longer lasting) bar.

You can probably find someone who makes their own soap by hand who makes something with similar ingredients. Do you have a farmers market near you? Lots of times you can find soap makers selling there. There are also loads of places to buy online. Health food stores are another place to look, though finding soap with tallow there might be a little more difficult.

Even if you can’t find the same ingredients, real soap made from scratch is usually going to be more gentle and contain less additives than commercially made bars.

Celtling and I have extremely sensitive skin. California Baby “Super Sensitive” works like a charm for us. It’s a bit expensive, but with it my hands crack and bleed about once a week, instead of ten times a day. . . (Because sometimes you have to use whatever is available in a public restroom.)

But basically, just read ingredients. You are looking for glycerin based, unscented soaps. Any one you find should work well for you.

I called the company and was informed that Baby’s own soap has been discontinued because not enough people were buying it. I’ve been told that Pears soap is gentle on the skin, more than ivory which makes me itch. I haven’t tried it yet but plan to soon.
I found a few ads online that have baby’s own for sale by the case, keep looking, you may luck out.
Happy hunting

Well, I gave up in my quest to find any local stores that were selling off their last stock of the Baby’s Own soap. However, we bought some “Live Clean” Baby soap, and while it’s a bit more drying than Baby’s Own, at least there’s no sign of a bad reaction yet. It is definitely more expensive, though ($6.00 Can. for 3 bars). Thanks for everyone’s help!

Reported soapy spam possibility.

For the OP, what about using an actual baby wash, like Johnson & Johnson’s, or one of the generic versions thereof? people use these on actual babies, including newborns. They’re liquid soaps (or cleanser, I guess-- they aren’t true soaps) that are very gentle. I’m pretty sure they have a high water content, but I know adults with sensitive skin who have used them, and they say they get you clean if you shower every day.

You get them in the baby section of the store, not the soap section.

The soap sections also have hypoallergenic soaps that don’t have scents added. If you are able to use soap with sodium tallowate, which is actually pretty drying, then maybe the problem you have with other soaps is that you are actually reacting to them, and the scent is the most common culprit. Baby washes usually have some mild scents, but they even have “Sensitive skin” versions, which probably don’t have scents.

Can you wear clothes washed in regular detergent, or do you have to use scent-free? My mother has to use scent-free detergent and soap, but she can use tallowate. Personally, I stay away from tallowate because I’m a vegetarian, and it can be hard to find bar soap without it. We get Dr. Broner’s. It has a ton of scents, and different oils, but no tallowate. Tallow is beef fat-- or, I guess, it could be sheep or goat fat, but in common parlance, it usually means beef fat. Sodium tallowate is lye and animal fat.

I wonder how her skin is afte 9 years?
