Well, it’s that day… the one I’ve been both looking forward to and dreading - the First Day of School for the kids. My daughter is entering her senior year of high school and my son is venturing forth into the 6th grade shark pit of middle school.
Oh boy.
Our daughter has been looking forward to this - she can’t wait to see her friends, get back into her activities, and finally be a senior. She has tons of friends, does well in school, and I have no worries there.
Our son is looking forward to it (not), and is nervous as hell. He’s a shy, sort of awkward kid, loves computers, hates sports.
I worry.
What if the other kids are mean to him? What if there’s no one to sit next to during lunch? What if he loses his schedule? Forgets his locker combination? Falls down in gym? Gets hit in the head with a ball? Loses his pencil?
He went off to the bus stop just a little bit ago wearing his favorite outfit - jeans with a tear in the knee and a shirt that looks about a size too small. :smack:
I’ll update again after school.
Help! Tell me a comforting story about how you were a little shy at first but it all worked out in the end.
Hell I don’t know, depends on what kind of mean, on how your kid takes it and on who else is around; I suck at defending myself but people learned Not To Pick On Others in front of me.
No idea, is that so bad? Clue me in, I only ate at school when my parents were out of town (and due to the Special Nava Constraints To Murphy’s Law, got liver every time).
He’ll get another one. We were all totally lost the first couple weeks, and here in Spain students don’t even move around much, it’s the teachers who do.
I’m sure that’s happened to tons and tons and TOOOOOOONS of kids before him, there’s a procedure in place. It may involve a finger being shaken in front of his nose, and it may not.
He’ll stand back up.
OUCH! Hopefully there won’t be much permanent damage… worst damage I got from being hit on the head with a ball was a pair of broken glasses. Now when I run into that classmate he asks how are my glasses doing
Is there a pencil shortage or something? I started a new job 6 weeks ago and got three new Bics as part of my “welcome package”: one blue, one black, one red. The red mysteriously disappeared last week, I asked for another, nobody yelled at me or anything…
Well, so far so good. He seems fairly happy when he gets home from school. One thing that really pissed me off is that I sent him to school with $5.00 to buy lunch and they WOULDN’T SELL HIM A LUNCH without his ID. WTH? Do they think that people are going to come wandering in off the street in order to get the delicious middle school cafeteria lunch?
