The whole premise seems to be uniting the Abrahamic religions which honestly makes me both a little gleeful but simultaneously want to gag. It’s an odd feeling of cognitive dissonance.
Anyway, it’s a 2 part mini-series, 2 hours each part, to air on Dec 21 and 28. Here’s a blurb.
Were this anyone but Amanpour I probably wouldn’t post this but I’m hoping this will be pretty much done from an academic not to mention non-sectarian approach so it should at least be educational.
I’m not sure this is worth it. I thought it was pretty weak with a lot of touchy feely stuff and not much substance. I mean can you believe that they did a whole segment on the hunt for Noah’s arc featuring some washed up bimbo from Baywatch or some other stupid ass, jiggle-interest show? It’s nothing short of amazing I made all of the way through and man was that tough. I really had to choke it down.
I mean ok, I did fast forward through a lot but in my defense, that was to preserve my sanity (and my 50" HDTV).
Probably the only decent segment was on Ballard (guy who found Titanic wreck) and the fact that the Black Sea was originally an inland lake that suffered a catastrophic flood around 7k years ago - around the time that the deluge myth started to circulate in the ancient near east (e.g., the Gilgamesh story). But even that “discovery” is at least 5 year old news to anyone who follows that sort of thing - not to mention the fact that floods from glacial damming is a pretty well known phenomenon.
Meh. I guess I’ll watch the part too, or at least try, but I can’t say I’m looking forward to it.
