Well, here’s an odd little question that I’ve always meant to ask…With a bit of spoiler space…
I just caught the end of “Back to the Future part II” tonight, which had Doc Brown sending Marty a letter from 1885 via Western Union. My question is: In real life, could I have Western Union deliver a letter to a place and time in the far future, even going so far as to have a letter delivered to someone matching a certain name and description? And, most importantly, would I have to pay extra?
Well, thanks for your time,
Ranchoth
No. If it is not deliverable they will not accept it. But that doesn’t mean it cannot be done. My advice is to get the message into a time capsule near you. The only problem is that the location of the capsule will eventually be forgotten and it will end up being recovered by future archaeologists who may stand around shaking their heads at whatever you wrote. Oh, wait! There IS a practial solution. Send it Priority mail via the US Post Office. It will be delivered in the distant future.
I wouldn’t think that Western Union could do it… I think it was just a “product shot” in the movie. The most practical way to do it would be through a lawyer. just my WAG
