"Backlash" movies.

You know what I’m talking about, those movies that some people hate beyond all reason- some of them have never seen the movie, others said it was the greatest thing since sliced bread until it actually became popular.

The Crying Game pretty damn good. Those who dis it are misguided, there was a hell of a lot more to it than a plot twist. Some who claim it was bad obviously haven’t even seen it, because they talk about the “twist ending”- first of all, it can’t exactly be a “twist ending” when the surprise happens like a third of the way into the movie.

The Blair Witch Project was also very good. I noticed immediately after it came out there were two camps of haters- the wannabees who would have loved it if it hadn’t been popular claimed that it ripped off Cannibal Apocalypse- no it didn’t, both used the “found footage” idea but Blair Witch wasn’t idiotic and hypocritical, besides which CA wasn’t presented entirely as found footage, the footage was presented within the context of a fictional film. The other group of haters didn’t even seem to “get” it, they are the type who would prefer cheesy CGI to genuine scares.

Titanic. I have to admit that I didn’t like Titanic, but at least I’ve seen it and know it’s bad unlike the majority of people who claim to hate it.

Moulin Rouge!. It wasn’t perfect, I would have preferred original music to singing 80s pop hits like they did, but it was interesting, and pretty innovative.

Can anybody think of any others? Who wants to step up to defend a wrongly maligned film.

The Last Tempation of Christ raised a lot of hell when it came out.

And what about Harry Potter, or was that just the books?
