I was driving home tonight, listening to “Coast” (the show that Art Bell used to do before he retired), and this suitably wacky lady was on, talking about the impending (as in like a month) arrival of some new planet that will have invading aliens on it that will take us all to live somewhere else or something.
Anyway, suddenly George Nory (the host, whom I like a lot less than Art) lights up and says, something like, “Hey, we have the one and only Baaad Astronomer on the line! How’s it going?” BA then proceeded to totally destroy this lady’s argument in a matter of seconds, leaving her to scramble to put something together. Rock on, dude.
Still, I must admit that initially I was kind of mad that the dopers were invading a bastion of ignorance that I like so darned much. Can’t we just keep some around, you know, like an exhibit or something?
If it were endangered, I could see keeping some around just so the kids would know what ignorance used to look like. Seeing how it’s not endangered, but seems to be running rampant, I don’t think we need to worry about saving any at this time.
Heh. I decided I had to try to call in when I heard she was on, and was surprised to get in so easily. I guess timing is everything; they had just opened the phone lines up to callers.
Anyway, looks like there’ll be a “debate” between Nancy Lieder and me sometime in the near future. I’ll post something when it happens.
Later she said that you actually will be “debating the zetas, and they’re really smart”. (The “zetas” are some entities which she supposedly channels). Good luck, but I’m afraid the whole thing will be like trying to empty the ocean with a bucket – there are a lot more where she came from.
