Arkansas is weird. There’s actually a Diamond mine in Murfreesboro you can visit, pay a fee and dig for diamonds.
It’s a fun but muddy/dirty place.
My girls took the Grandwrex to dig for diamonds. It’s safe. Social distancing is not a problem. They took a picnic lunch.
I could’ve went, except I don’t like getting dirty or burning up in the heat and humidity.
The story goes:
They got to the park and immediately had a bathroom issue. All kids had a potty break and they go in to the field to dig.
As it was related to me the baby was not happy. She kept wandering down the hill and the Moms kept sending the older kids to go fetch her.
She had 2 time outs. Finally she got to shoveling.
Now this place is nothing but a giant sand box. No, not sand. Red dirt. Wet dirt. Filthy dirty dirt. And VERY few diamonds.
I actually know a person who dug up a nice size stone. It’s the ugliest thing I’ve ever seen. Kinda brown and yellow. Looks like petrified poop, to me. But I digress…
The oldest granddaughter hollered that the baby was eating dirt. Her mother ran and stuck a nasty (I believe) finger in her mouth and pulled out a giant white ‘diamond’ Whoo-hoo! We’re rich.
Don’t buy the Minks and Rolls-Royce yet., Ms. Moneybags.
They take the stone, that coulda choked the baby to death, and wash it off. OMG it looks really ‘real’. I mean ‘REAL’
They go into the station to have the people evaluate it. Every person ‘oohs’ and ‘ahs’ over it. The baby with a dirty muddy mouth is just so proud.
Mom is so excited. Everyone else is just hungry.
Alas, it’s not the Diamond they believed it was. It’s a very nice Crystal.
I asked the baby about her ‘Diamond’
She said…“I neewy swallow it to my tum, Nana”
She loves it.
Mom is disappointed.
I get to do more laundry. Yay, me!
I have always wanted to go there. I try to encourage people to go there and dig up an engagement stone.
hopefully y’all can make her a nifty necklace or bracelet with the stone.
Nice stones are rarely found there.
The ‘great’ Arkansas Diamond ain’t no ‘Hope’ Diamond. It’s a yellow diamond. Several carats but not beautiful, IMHO.
There are several lesser stones you can find. Of course crystals are everywhere. If you don’t find anything you can buy one at the many souvenir shops.
When my inlaws lived in Sylva, NC, a couple of times we visited, we took our daughter “panning” for gems. You get a bucket full of mud, etc, and you sit at a trough where water is flowing so you can wash away the mud and uncover your treasures. I believe they seed the mud with semi-precious stones, and on occasion, there will be a genuine find, but mostly it’s just for fun. My daughter has some amethysts and teensy rubies.
She still remembers that fondly.
Babywrex ‘diamond’ is missing. We had a complete melt down yesterday because “She wused it”
I told DIL to pay close attention to any poop for something shiny.
That’s some serious ‘diamond’ huntin’, right there.

!
oh dear. perhaps it is under the fridge? helped along by a sparkle loving cat?
i’m not fond of diamonds, but I would wear one (even a yellowish brown one…) that my beloved dug out of the earth his own self.
I got a couple of sparklies Mr Wrekker bought for me.
I figure they were part of the blood diamond disgrace.
I don’t care. I like 'em.
I’ve always wanted to visit the diamond park. It’s on my bucket list. Just for the experience.
Hope you find the one at home. It’s probably in the carpet waiting for you to step on it.
Anyway, it’ll show up eventually.
@aceplace57, they have a swim park next to it now.
We used to go every year with the 4-H club.
