I bought a on-the-cheap-end recliner to put in my chamber(bedroom, I just like to say that).
Knowing I’d be the only one using it I thought it would be ok to be cheapish.
Wrong.
The thingy that makes it recline made a snappy sound. Now it just pulls out. No recline-no more.
I think, oh something just unhooked. I turn it up.
And a black hole of mechanical fun stares at me ominously.
I found a cable running through a plastic tube. I figured this is what has come loose.
I look at a little barrel shaped thingy on the end of the cable. I further figure this is what needs to hook to the finger pull on the side of the chair.
There looking at me is one thing that doesn’t go with the other. No way to match them up. No screw to tighten it. No magic doo-hickey that attaches anything to anything.
So now I have a recliner that doesn’t recline.
I have a chair.
I’ll have to change my whole way of thinking about my new chair
I can still sit down and put my socks on. But, can I sit, recline and comfortably read? Nope. After I bought the cool floor lamp, too. Dang it.
I’m sorry to hear about your chair. We have a really expensive store here called Relax the Back full of desks and chairs for back pain - I actually own one of their stand-up desks (I’ll let you guess how often I use it standing up.) But I do fantasize about getting one of their ultra-fancy back-friendly chairs.
I have one of those zero gravity type canvas chairs in my reading room that I’ve slightly reclined. Still use an ottoman with it as I don’t want to recline far enough to get my feet up.
This is the kind of chair I mean, and despite the lack of any padding it’s surprisingly comfortable. You could always plop a cushion on the seat. Lots of bargains for those chairs on Amazon right now.
Need an ottoman for it? Lots of those on Amazon, and the inflatable kind are inexpensive. Got one of those, too.
ETA: Oh, hey, just found the actual ottoman I ordered, and it’s even cheaper.
I think the barrel end came from the finger pull but the seating for it has broken. You probably need a replacement.
Is this what your chair look like?
You will love it. I scored one at Costco. Though the label said it is “For Outdoor Use Only” I have it in my living room. It does wonders for my bad back. I find it difficult to use for anything other than lounging when it is at full tilt, but even just five minutes in it makes my back feel better.
