Bald Eagle Killed in Attack at Zoo
A lot of locals think the recent deaths were due to negligence, but this just sounds like really bad karma!
“The National Zoo has lost another animal, this time a bald eagle that was attacked by an unidentified animal last week and died on Independence Day.”
On the Fourth of July ? !
"The death comes shortly before a congressionally requested panel assembled by the National Academy of Sciences is to begin its study of a series of animal deaths and animal care at the zoo.
The incidents that prompted that inquiry include the accidental poisoning of two red pandas this year. Several other cases could face scrutiny, including that of two zebras who died of hypothermia and malnutrition in 2000, and the deaths of at least a dozen animals including a lion, an orangutan, an elephant, two giraffes and a tree kangaroo."
