Bad Movies with Good Soundtracks

OK, the title of the thread speaks for itself.

My pick:

Coneheads- Lousy movie, but the soundtrack featured such gems as “Soul to Squeeze” (Red Hot Chili Peppers), “Free World, Baby” (R.E.M.), “Tainted Love” (Soft Cell), “Kodachrome” (Paul Simon), etc., etc.

Other nominees?

“Gift” All Jane’s addiction songs (I love Jane’s), but a horrible movie.

I nominate “Tommy”. An absolutely craptacular adaptation of a classic album, but it does feature Elton John, Tina Turner, Eric Clapton, and The Who.

I should also mention Wim Wenders’s “Until The End of the World”, an unbelievably lame movie, but with a soundtrack that features Lou reed, Talking Heads, R.E.M., Elvis, Costello, Nick Cave, Jane Siberry with k.d. lang, U2, and Peter Gabriel.

Good pick, goboy. That was going to be my next nominee.

But - The Crow.

Lousy friggin’ movie.

INCREDIBLE soundtrack.

Chariots of Fire (the only good part was the music)

Born Free (got the music oscar but stunk as a movie)

Clueless had a pretty good soundtrack. Although, some may disagree that it was a bad movie. I thought it was.

KIDS-
it’s an incredible soundtrack.
I can’t figure out if it’s a bad movie, or if it just bothered me, though.

You didn’t like Tommy? That’s one of my favs.

The Competition was a less than great movie, but I love the music (classical).

I always hated the movie “Dirty Dancing”, but the soundtrack was really cool. Same for “Flashdance” and “Footloose”.

I’ll add “Singles.”

There was another movie that I can’t remember the name of; part cartoon, part live action, IIRC Kim Basinger was in it. It was horrible but had an awesome soundtrack with The Ministry, My Life with the Thrill Kill Cult, and others.

Star Trek TMP, boring movie great music.

I didn’t think “Singles” was that bad of a movie. It had Matt Dillon and Bridget Fonda in it. And the soundtrack was excellent.

Two others, if you’re into the harder stuff:

Last Action Hero
Escape From L.A.

That would be “Cool World”, which was the only movie I ever really considered going to the window and asking for my money back. How many pounds of drugs did Ralph Bakshi take to get that one done?!

As for lousy movies with great soundtracks… “Taboo” with Kay Parker. Man, some great funk on that one - huh? oh, you mean movies the whole family can watch? Nevermind… :o

Dumb and Dumber. God that movie licked ass. Haven’t seen another one that bad until Something About Mary. But Dumb and Dumber’s soundtrack was good - Crash Test Dummies, Deadeye Dick, and other goodies.

  1. I thought “Kids” was child pornography passed off as a documentary about the horrors of child pornography.

  2. I happen to like “Clueless.”

  3. That Thing You Do.

  4. If it weren’t such a damned fine movie, “October Sky” . . . for someone who likes old(er) music, that is.

How about great movies with POS soundtracks? Or do we tend not to remember the POS soundtracks?
