Bad news about Charity (The woman I like)

Yesterday at work she started complaining about a severe pain in her lower abdomen, and it apparently got so bad that she nearly fainted. The Good Hearts were called (Good Hearts are people who work at Bean who have taken a first aid course. They carry walkie talkies and whenever there is an injury or a sick person they hustle over and care for the person.) and they came over and looked her over.

Charity ended up going to Mid Coast Hospital and didn’t come back to work yesterday.

She came in this morning but after talking with a front line supervisor she went home.

I work about 200 yards away from the multi-pack department ,so I didn’t actually see any of this but heard about from a friend and co-worker.

So, here’s the bad news.

Apparently Charity has an ovarian cyst.

I don’t know a whole lot about that type of thing, but it doesn’t seem like something anyone would want to have, correct?

So, I spent most of work today thinking/worrying about her. Luckily it was pretty quiet down at postal, with no major or even semi-major disasters.
Damn.:frowning:
Sighs heavily

:frowning: Sorry to hear (read) that, WSLer. IANAD of course but I think she may need a surgical procedure for the cyst. Maybe you can send flowers or offer to drive her to/from the hospital.

I hope all goes smoothly for her.

Having had 2 such cysts, I can say that it wasn’t fun, but I came thru the surgery just fine. As long as she listens to her doctor she should be OK. Just look at me - I’m OK! No, really, I am!

[sub]Seriously, I’m sure she’ll be fine. I’m sending positive vibes her way[/sub]

My prayers are with you and your friend.

… and sometimes you don’t even need surgery for em. Still not a fun thing to have when they cause pain. Unfortunately quite common.

Hope she’s up n about soon. Offer to take her some soup

Had one of those several years ago that ruptured and set up infection.

I was laid up in bed for a week and it hurt to bad that if I wiggled my toes my whole body would hurt. It took the doctors the entire week (6 trips to the ER) to figure out what was wrong and then I spent the night in the hospital with an IV drip that Saturday and by Monday I was fine and back in school again.

It’s definitly not fun and I wouldn’t wish that sort of pain on anybody, she definitly has my sympathy. :frowning:

Send flowers, but don’t worry overmuch. Since they know what it is, they will do surgery and it’ll be ok. Wifecat had one and 2 good friends have had them…the friends surgeries were all Laproscopic(sp?) meaning they had a tiny hole cut in their belly-button. Wifecat’s was a bit more complicated, but it was done here before Lap got to Central Europe. She had half of her ovary removed, my friends both had less then that. We now have a healthy, happy baby girl, so it didn’t affect future family planning.

Be concerned, but it will turn out fine healthwise. Pocketbook-wise might be another story.

I’ve had a few - the last one ruptured and landed me in the Emergency Room. (Fortunately the figured it out correctly the first trip). No infection, just a few days of miserable pain afterward.

The ones they caught before rupturing were removed, except one that they just watched - it shrank and went away. Having them removed wasn’t too bad, though, but it took about a week to recover. If they’re big enough that they’re seriously hurting her now, they probably will want to remove them - they shouldn’t be THAT painful. They’re a normal part of a female’s cycle, but they occasionally grow and get out of hand.

Best of luck to her - send flowers!

My family has a history of such cysts, both my mother and her sister had ones that required total hysterectomies eventually. Both of them had them for years before knowing about them, in the case of my aunt, it was a kidney stone that caused the cyst to be located. Aside from the infection risk is the warning that a tendency to such cysts is a good cancer indicator as well.
