Bad news for retirees who hate the south

I’m retired but stay in Canada. For health care.

I don’t think that the New York listing was accurate. The ranking might be, but in it, it explicitly avowed high taxes as the reason NYS was so bad. They claim it’s the cost of living. But while it’s true that NYS’s real estate prices have not fallen as far as they have in the boom states, it’s still cheaper to buy an equivalent house in upstate New York than in many other places in America. So much so that it makes up for the increased price of staples and heating.

Now, the property taxes are pretty high, but the article claims that NYS didn’t get in there for the taxes

Looking for warmth?

I have visited Marquette in the Summer and it’s is beautiful. I often thought if I could stand the winters, it’d be wonderful to retire up there.

Some people call them snowbirds. We call them pantywaists.

I’d rather stick a dagger in my eye than spend an hour in Florida. Seriously, it’s my idea of hell on earth.

I’m planning to snowbird to Arizona in my old age - after 60 or so years of Canadian winters, you can call me a pantywaist for getting tired of them if you like.
