Bad Samaritan (no major spoilers)

I attended a free screening of this movie at Silicon Valley Comic Con yesterday, complete with introduction by star David Tennant and director Dean Devlin. Since it’s not being released until next month I won’t post any spoilers, but I would definitely say it’s worth seeing! Very old-school, psychological scary. Not a lot of gore, but Tennant’s character Cale Erendreich makes Kilgrave look charming by comparison.

I never thought I’d be rooting for Tennant to get taken out with extreme prejudice, but when he got his comeuppance (no spoilers as to how), the whole theater cheered.

Another thing I found quite refreshing about it was that, even though the plot centered around a kidnapped woman (that was in the trailer, so it’s only a small spoiler), the film neatly avoided the tired “damsel in distress” tropes, including definitively making it clear that Erendreich’s issues with the victim were not sexual.

If you like good horror and/or seeing David Tennant at his most terrifying evilness, I definitely recommend Bad Samaritan. It’s an indie film, so it probably won’t get a wide release, but it’s worth supporting.

Here’s the trailer, if you haven’t seen it yet.

Good job!

That’s not a spoiler. He’s the bad guy. You can pretty much guarantee something’s going to happen to him.

But if the mods feel that’s too spoiler-y, please change the thread title.
