BadChad, a moment of your time, if you can spare it

Sid, if, as I dimly begin to suspect, you were intending to channel Tom Cruise, I’m afraid your joke was too subtle to be seen.

Fuck you for calling me a liar. In doing so you expose yourself as a friend of stupidity.

Yeah, story of my life.

You’re-you’re a jerk. You’re a jerk! You’re glib!

It’s okay-I was like, “WTF?” at first, then I figured it out. You might wanna include a smiley-never know around here.

Yeah, you and/or people you love believe in god but not the sky pixie. That’s as far as it goes.

A person who felt they could prove they aren’t nuts probably wouldn’t mind it that much. You don’t see us atheists all defensive about why we don’t in your god.

Well I think the point is that we both agree Catholics are irrational. We also both agree that your religious remnants are irrational. I’m not sure what I said to you that’s left to refute.

This threads pretty long so I don’t recall if I said you were insecure or not, but you said you were irrational. I just agreed with you.

Can’t say about insecure but certainly their beliefs, at least as it pertains to religion, are irrational.

No, just one of 160 million, as per your math.

First I have to ask why you would accept that your god is all loving, all powerful, and existent, when your own reasoning and 3000 years of argument still is not totally persuasive. Second I should point out that the bible says you are predestinated, and that means you don’t have free will. Third, seeing is how you don’t actually give a shit about what the bible says, I’ll point out that there is no reason outside of the bible to assume you have free will either, other than perhaps the warm fuzzy feeling that yet another illusion gives you.

Ha, you Christians are all the same. Just like a fundamentalist who says he doesn’t know how Noah fit all those animals on the ark or gathered up penguins, you can’t answer the problem of evil. Fundamentalists there irrationalities on faith using the exact same excuses you do. And yet you look down upon these same fundamentalists, you lowly hypocrite.

It appears to me that you thought about it a little and just gave up thinking and started faithing when things got difficult. If I were you, I’d keep hiding my beliefs under a bushel.

There is no free will Jodi. Might I suggest you back up and take the course “Causality 077.” You might try reading the books Exodus, Romans and Ephesians while you’re at it.

Am I getting this correct Jodi? You are admitting you don’t know if the Christian god is real?

Maybe I’m wrong but I don’t recall Scientologists murdering and torturing people. Catholics are famous for it.

Why do you mock JerseyDiamond, Joe Cool, and lynn73? Does it make you feel big?

I seem to recall at least one of those guys regularly putting down JerseyDiamond, Joe Cool, and lynn73.

 You’re kidding, right?
:dubious:
Indeed you are wrong. Very wrong. Look up Lisa McPherson, for starters.

Because, much like you, they acted like assholes and were called on it. Again, it’s not your beliefs, it’s your behavior. Those three treated everyone around them like shit.

DrDeth if that doesn’t sum up this entire thread better than anything else I don’t know what does. Contrapuntal is ok by your definition, only because he gives fundies a hard time, but wouldn’t dream of criticizing your personal irrationality. The same goes for Diogenes the Cynic. You don’t mind debating him because he picks on others and not you. Did you ever think that when fundamentalists leave this place they think to themselves what a bunch of assholes you all are? I personally can’t say if you are an ass or not but you sure are one hell of a hypocrite.

Nope.

Ok I looked it up. So Scientologists maybe contributed to an accidental death of Lisa McPherson, and all criminal charges were dropped. And you are comparing this to the Inquisition, Crusades, etc., and tell me I’m wrong, very wrong, with a post full of emoticons. Well if that’s what you call wrong, I don’t want to be right. BTW, how many deaths do you estimate the Catholic Church is responsible for?

I can’t speak for the other two but I did converse a few times with Lynn73 and thought she was a very nice lady, even if misguided.

Lisa McPherson wasn’t their only death. Look, we’re not going to agree on the Catholic church vs. Scientology, and it’s a hijack anyway.

The point isn’t, btw, whether the Catholic church is good or bad-it’s whether or not YOU are acting like an asshat. Which you are.

Oh, so Scientologists may be responsible for a handful of deaths that you apparently expect me to take on faith, compared to Catholic Church which has killed what, tens of thousands, or is it hundreds of thousands? Perhaps we should make a ratio if estimated deaths.

You’re the one that started saying Catholics were better. Sorry if your argument isn’t going as well as you hoped.

I think it’s more like letting your kid touch the hot stove so he knows not to do it again.

“But why would an omnibenevolent God create the hot stove in the first place, since He would know that the kid would come along and touch it? Isn’t that eeeeeevil?”

I would suggest that we still have some growing we need to do, some lessons to learn.

“But why wouldn’t an omnibenevolent God just create us all growed up and full of all the knowledge we needed? Isn’t it kind of mean that He could do that, but doesn’t?”

To that I would say…wouldn’t that just be boring?
Oh, and badchad? It’s predestined, not predestinated. I’m not picking on you, it’s just that you’ve done that a couple times this thread and it’s bothering me.

I found the following in the Catholic Catechism cited once by Tomndebb. In it was:

So Sarahfeena, would you like to amend a statement or two of yours?

Sorry, the KJB spells it predestinated, which I guess today is a little archaic.

Yeah, that’s great that you apologize now. But in the mean time you were hitting “Report This Post” like you were making Morse Code. Admit it.

YMMV but boring is, IMO, preferable to little girls being raped and killed. Otherwise it seems that you are arguing that heaven will be boring since heaven is generally thought to be without evil.

Sure. I confused two issues by using the word “inerrent” as a substitute for theword “literal.” The Catholic Church does believe that scripture in inerrent, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they think every word should be taken literally. Sorry my post was not clear.

That little girls get raped and murdered is, without question, a terrible thing.

With that in mind, what would be the point of living if we already knew everything there is to know? If we had nothing to grow into, no goals to accomplish, no great discoveries to…well, discover, what would be the reason to stay alive?

It sounds like you are arguing that little girls being raped and murdered is a small sacrifice to allow your life to have meaning. Also it seems you are arguing that the presence of evil makes the world a preferable state, than what awaits a few of you in heaven, where everything is supposed to be peachy all the time. If god can make us tolerate eternal bliss in heaven he should be able to do it on earth. If god can’t make us tolerate eternal bliss in heaven, well, then you better start sinning.

What’s your crime? Confess your crime!

:stuck_out_tongue:

Ask away. I wasn’t talking to you. If you could read through thirteen pages of this thread and imagine I have any intention of discussing my faith with you, here and now, or anywhere and ever, you’re nuts. Feel free to continue to chime in from the peanunt gallery, but be advised that when you start weighing on the specifics of religion, I stop reading your posts. I give Kalhoun the benefit of the doubt – you, not so much.

Sid, I apologize for snarling at you. There’s a fine line between snark and humor, and it’s especially hard to see in the Pit.
