Anybody familiar with this group? We saw their concert last night and recommend giving them a listen if they come to town. They are a self-described “Afro-Celtic” group, which sounds odd, but works. The influence for their music comes from time spent with the Baka pygmy tribe of Cameroon. The group is multi-national, with members from Britain, Brittany, Cameroon, Senegal, etc. The music is energetic and heavily West African in rhythms. An excellent concert.
In fact, we’ve had two excellent concerts in the past week. The other was Manuel Barrueco and Al Dimeola playing together, which was a terrific combination. The only rolleyes note was the lobby announcer who proclaimed that there were only “ten minutes until the start of tonight’s concert with ‘Man-you-el Bah-roo-co and Al Duh-meelio’.” Sheesh.
