I suppose you can throw any hammer but if you are good you can get an olympic medal throwing “The Hammer”, though the target is sector of infinite length (you can still miss the target by throwing outside the sector)

A member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe, he was a relatively unknown distance runner on the 1964 US Olympic team. His gold-medal win in the 10,000 meters still ranks as one of the greatest upsets in Olympic history. His winning time was 50 seconds better than his previous personal best.
