Trivia game for Trek Dopers

Inspired by Doping with Viva and Aesiron last night, I thought of a new Star Trek trivia game.

Here’s how it will work.

Post answers or questions.

Please limit questions to 3 per post. You can always come back.

Please quote question and credit Doper who posted it when answering.

Make it as hard or as easy as you wish, but please have a verifiable source for the answer. This can include books about the series (but no fiction books, not even DS-9), the shows themselves, and online sources.

When someone gets your question right, let us know. Wait 3 tries before answering your own question if everyone gets it wrong.

All series (except animated) and movies are open game.

Some of you will be more knowledgable in one series than another. Don’t be shy. Just post away.

If everyone’s been on DS-9 for a few posts and you have a Voyager question, post it!

It’s all for fun.

I’ll be mostlyTOS and TNG myself, so some of your Qs on other series will probably stump me.

Ready?

               ***Star Trek Trivia!***

In Star Trek - The Motion Picture, who was Captain Will Decker’s father?
In Shore Leave, what major character gets killed?
What TOS episode first introduced us to time travel? (Bonus: Why did it happen?)

In Star Trek - The Motion Picture, who was Captain Will Decker’s father?

Commodore Matt Decker from The Doomsday Machine

In Shore Leave, what major character gets killed?

Dr. McCoy (temporarily)

What TOS episode first introduced us to time travel? (Bonus: Why did it happen?)

The Naked Time, when the engines imploded they entered a time warp as the ships chronometers moved backward.

Icerigger got 'em all!

Someone else post some questions., too.

What request did physicist Steven Hawking make when touring the TNG sets?

What TNG episode(s) had no scenes on the bridge?

What Starship Captain(s) brought his/her pet on the voyage?

This crowd will easily pick off the simple ones. Try these on for size:

What starship was commanded by Captain Edward Jellico?

What kind of animal did Worf have as a child?

What was the name of the Earth conflict in which Khan Noonien Singh rose to power?
[sub]All answers verified from The Star Trek Encyclopedia - Okuda, Okuda and Mirek, Pocket Books, 1994.[/sub]

For the record, I’ll ammend the rules to say that you don’t have to provide the cite unless you’re called on it.
Play ball!

Well, Captain Picard had Livingston the Ready Room Fish, and Archer has that adorable token mutt.

Man, I was broken up at the end of Generations when Data was looking for his cat Spot … but no mention of whether Livingston survived!

What was the name of the Earth conflict in which Khan Noonien Singh rose to power?
Answer: The Eugenics Wars of the 1990s

Dragonblink, yes.

ftr, Livingston is a Babelfish. It survived in Riker’s anus for a while. His flatulance allowed StarFleet bioligists to discover sentient tapeworms.

Well, I think I know that answer to two of Dooku’s questions.

What kind of animal did Worf have as a child?
Was it a targ?

What was the name of the Earth conflict in which Khan Noonien Singh rose to power?
The Eugenics Wars.
That still leaves Dooku’s first question, to which I think I know that answer but am unsure: What starship was commanded by Captain Edward Jellico?

To that I’ll add these:

For how long did Data consider defecting to the Borg (for him, it was an eternity)?

What does Odo mean? Or, from what does the security chief on DS9 get his name?

According to my source, this is incorrect.

Though, my source may be wrong. Cite, please.

Cite.

Mephisto is correct about the targ. You were both correct about the Eugenics Wars. (I was hoping to trip someone up into saying “World War III”).

WooHoo! Trick question from Dooku!

Very sly, mister. Took me a while find as I couldn’t remember what series I heard that name in.

What starship was commanded by Captain Edward Jellico?
Enterprise NCC-1701D during episode Chain of Command - Part 1
Now that’s a trivia gamer thing to do!
Man, the DS-9 Q is stumping me so far.

Oh shit!!! I read the wrong episode off the very Cite I used. :smack:

Family is the correct answer.

Yes! But, there is another.

I’ll give you half credit for that one, b/c I wasn’t clear. I was looking for the starship he officially commanded. He was given temporary command of the NCC-1701D.

Dammit! One of my fave episodes, too, Dooku.

Was it the Cairo? WAG, here.

There are FOUR lights!

Y’all keep ‘em comin’. I’ll be back in a bit.

:dubious:

Correct sir!! It was indeed the Cairo.

I’ll be back on Monday, leaving work, don’t even look at a computer on the weekends. On purpose.

If this thread is still going, I’ll toss out some impossible ones from the book that I have here.

Which two Voyager characters appeared in TNG? (not as the same people however)

How many fist fights has Archer been in since he left space dock?

How many of these fights have been with women?

Which two Voyager characters appeared in TNG? (not as the same people however)

Tim Russ (Tuvok) played “Devor” in the episode “Starship Mine,” and also appeared in ST: Generations as a crewmember on the Enterprise-C. (I’ll count that as a TNG movie). He also appeared as both Tuvok and another character on DS9.

Ethan Phillips (Neelix) appeared as “Dr. Farek” in the episode “Menage a Troi.” He was also a Ferengi on Enterprise.

What does Odo mean? Or, from what does the security chief on DS9 get his name?

His full name is something like Odo’ital… it’s Cardassian and literally means “nothing”. I think I have that right.
NCB, I believe Family’s the only TNG episode with no bridge scenes. Cite for the second episode?
Okay… some of my own:

How many hosts has the Dax symbiote had?

What were McCoy’s peripheral tricorder scanners in actuality?

What was the original name of Tasha Yar? And who was originally intended to play her?
