"Star Trek" trivia contest

I started a Tolkien trivia contest in CS which has run for a good long time. Let’s try it for ST.

The Rules:

You must rely on your memory - you can’t consult any other source (book, video, DVD, a pal, etc.), either to formulate a question, or to answer one. Number your question(s) (no more than five at a time, please), in sequence after those that came before. You can’t post questions of your own unless you’ve correctly answered an earlier question. The contest is limited to TV and movie canon only… oh, all right, and the animated series too. If possible, provide a cite to the appropriate episode or movie in your answer.

I’ll start the ball rolling:

  1. Gene Roddenberry’s middle name is also the last name of a TOS guest character, and the first name of a major character in TNG. What is it?

  2. What kind of Vulcan soup does Chapel offer Spock in TOS “Amok Time”?

  3. Name two ships on which Kirk served before assuming command of the USS Enterprise.

  4. What is the race of Arex, the orange three-legged alien navigator in TAS?

  5. What is Picard’s brother’s name?

  1. Plomik soup.

  2. Robert.
    A slam-dunk…

  3. What actress appeared as a one-off villainess in ToS, but on the side of the good guys in TNG?

And…

  1. In ToS, what’s the only instance of ship’s phasers being set to stun?

Answer to 7) A Piece of the Action.

Probably an easy one:

  1. Name the actor who appeared in TOS first as a villain, and thenon the side of the federation as a recurring character.
  1. Mark Lenard fits that bill. But he didn’t recur in ToS (Sarek’s only appearance was in Journey to Babel), but in the films and in TNG.

  2. How does Kang respond to Kirk’s instruction to “Go to the devil”?

  3. What TNG episode causes us to have to reconsider Kang’s statement?

  1. Wesley

  2. Kang says the Klingons have no devil

  3. “Devil’s Due”, when a villain impersonates Fehk’lr (sp?), the Klingon ruler of the underworld

  1. Who was the first person to refer to the U.S.S. Defiant as a ‘tough little ship’?

Not quite.

Diana Muldair

  1. Which actor played Will Riker’s captain when he was stationed on the Pegasus? And what is he doing today?

  2. Who was the commander of the Gallitep labor camp?

  3. Who was the Chief Medical Officer on the Enterprise before Leonard McCoy?

Zev Steinhardt

Will Riker

  1. Dr. Phillip Boyce from the Cage was one who preceded him.

  2. Who played Charlie X? {hint he had a long but minor career and is the son of 2 actors}

Nope, he was the second.

Incorrect. There was a CMO between Boyce and McCoy who served on the Enterprise.

Zev Steinhardt

Dr. Piper from the 2nd Pilot. “Where No man has gone Before?”
I can’t provide a first name without looking it up.

Robert Walker Jr., son of Robert Walker and Jennifer Jones.

15 Name two Oscar winners who had recurring roles in ST series.

  1. In “Wrath of Khan”, there is one glaring error as it relates to the episode “Space Seed”. What is it?

Ah. Not so.

I attended a ST convention where Walter Koenig was the guest speaker. He explained that in Space Seed, Chekov was in the boiler room.

Uhura had locked him in as a practical joke.

Whoopi Goldberg as Guinan from TNG is one.

So should I ask half a question?

The other is Louise Fletcher (Kai Winn). She won for One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.

Go ahead and ask.

Zev Steinhardt

Terry O’Quinn, who is now on Lost.

Gul Darheel

Whoopi Goldberg (Best Supporting Actress for Ghost) played Guinan, and Louise Fletcher (Best Actress for One Flew Over the Cukoo’s Nest) as Kai Winn.
17. During the occupation, who betrayed the Bajoran reistance in the Kendra Valley to the Cardassians?

  1. Who said “If there’s nothing wrong with me, there must be something wrong with the universe”?

(And on preview… I see I spent too long trying to think up questions.)

Kai Opaka.

Beverly Crusher, when she was trapped in a warp bubble.

  1. Name all the Soong-type androids.

Data, Lore, B-4, Lal
