Calling all Trekkies: only serious nerds need apply

I posted here a few weeks ago about a new co-worker (I’m the new one) who’s a total Star Trek fanatic and the Star Trek reference she made that went completely over my head. You Dopers came through with shining colors and I returned the next day able to grok her reference. She was quite impressed with the short turnaround time in which I gained such knowledge of Star Trek lore.

Well now I’d like to turn the tables on her. I’m looking for the most obscure, arcane bits of ST trivia you can come up with – the kind of stuff you have to have a Starfleet uniform tucked away in your closet to get. Trivia bits will preferably be fairly short and in a Q&A format; think Trivial Pursuit for Trekkies.

In advance, thank you. Live long and prosper.

Everybody knows Jim Kirk’s middle name is Tiberius. In one episode, they assigned him a different middle initial. What episode, what initial, and where did it appear?

How many different characters did Brent Spiner play during the entire run of ST:TNG?

In which episode, of which series, was homosexuality portrayed in a non-negative way, purely on its own merits as a lifestyle? And yes, there was ONE EPISODE.

I have a good one. In fact, so far as I know, it’s never been answered:

Who played the human form of Isis in “Assignment: Earth.”

It is widely “known,” that it was Barbara Babcock in an uncredited role–which would make sense since she supplied the voice of Isis the cat. (Although, to my ears, it sounded just like Teri Garr, who also appeared in that ep.)

Anyway, I have freeze-framed the scene of the “Cat Lady,” and I don’t believe it was the lovely Ms. Babcock for a minute.

So. . .

If this person is such an expert, who was this gal? (And supply some corroboration.)

What was “The Keeper” called by the other Talosian? (Answer: “Magistrate”)

Who supplied the voices of “The Keeper?” Malachi Throne, who would later appear in the re-edited “Menagerie” supplied some of the voice (maybe in “The Cage”), but for “The Menagerie,” someone else did the voice credits. I don’t know who that person is.

Ethilrist, do you have As to go along with your Qs?

The second pilot. James R. Kirk

Enough to convince me that he was underutilized as the emotionless Data for seven years

Seriously: Data, Lore, Dr. Soong, a bunch of characters in “Masks,” Data playing Sherlock Holmes, Data as an alien criminal in “Power Play,” and probably half a dozen others that I can’t think of right now.

Ah, yes, the episode with Riker and the androgynous society. Don’t remember the name of the episode.

What is the proper response to Queen to Queens level Three?
Name the episode in which worf complains that his Dress uniform looks like a Dress even though it is not the ridiculous length it was in Season one.
Which episode does McCoy get the “Last Word”
How many Quatloos were bid during the course of the “Gamesters of Trieskilon”?

Everyone knows “Live Long and Prosper” but it is actually a response to what phrase?

Journey to Babel

That’d be The Outcast, really crappy preachfest episode from Season 5.

  1. In how many TNG episodes does Moriarty appear?

  2. How many TNG episodes feature Q and do not have “Q” in their title?

  3. What is the only TNG episode that does not contain a single scene on the Bridge?

  4. Who are the only major TNG characters who have never had a relative appear on the show?

  5. How many characters did Denise Crosby play during TNG, and who were they?

  1. Two episodes, Elementary, Dear Data and Ship in a Bottle.

  2. Two episodes, Encounter at Farpoint and Tapestry.

  3. Family

  4. Ro, LaForge and Guinan. (Though we do meet a fake Geordi’s mom in Interface
    .)

  5. Two, Tasha Yar and Sela, the half-Romulan daughter of Tasha who was conceived when Yar was captured by the Romulans who destroyed the Enterprise-C after it was sent back in time with Tasha aboard in Yesterday’s Enterprise.

What was the combination to Kirk’s safe? (Don’t know the answer, but it is out there.)
What statement by William Shatner on national TV angered many hardcore fans? (Answer: The “Infamous Star Trek Sketch” on SNL, where Shatner told a group of conventioneers to “Get a life!” :D)
What’s the name of Shatner’s first movie and what’s significant about it besides his appearance in the film? (Answer: Incubus. It’s also the first [and probably only American film ever shot entirely in the language of Esperanto.)

I don’t want to spoil the previous answer, but…

Didn’t Ben Vereen play LaForge’s father in one episode?

Zev Steinhardt

Ooh, ooh! I know! I know!

Throw a hissy fit and change shape when you don’t know the right answer!!

the “R” appeared on Kirk’s tombstone.

And, no, it wasn’t the androgynous episode. Homosexuals would have been just as persecuted in that society as heteros were.

I’m thinking of the DS9 episode where Jadzia Dax met up with a woman hosting the symbiont of one of Dax’s previous incarnations’ wife, if that makes any sense. There was absolutely no stigma in Federation or Trill society against two women getting it on.

You forgot All Good Things…

Ya forgot one (or would it now count as two?) the series finale: All Good Things…

Which seasons of TNG is it possible to distinguish simply by the opening credits? I only know a partial answer to this, though.

The first two seasons had a different graphic of the planets fly-by.

The second season wouldn’t have Gates MacFadden in the credits.

answer:“Queen to King’s level one.”

You know, google takes all the fun out of being an original series fanatic.

B “proud to be a TREKKIE” Malion

zev: That’s right, and I also believe that Seasons 4 and 5 had a different logo, with some blue flames or waves coming out of the title.

Doh!

(I think it’s reasonable to count two-parters as a single episode.)

OK, then, here’s some other ones:

  1. How many TNG episodes feature the ship seperating the saucer section?

  2. How Many TOS characters have appeared on TNG?

[spoiler]

  1. Three: Encounter at Farpoint, Arsenal of Freedom and The Best of Both Worlds.

  2. Two: Spock in Reunification and Scotty in Relics. DeForest Kelly does make an appearance as an unnamed Admiral in Encounter at Farpoint, but I don’t think it’s ever been established if that was, in fact, McCoy, especially since he would have to be about 120 years old.

They never call him McCoy. But they do establish in the episode that the Admiral is over 130!

You also forgot Sarek.
