  4. Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA
  5. The Dead Sea, Israel / Jordan / West Bank

I was there 45 years ago and remember that the water is so salty and full of chemicals that it stings, especially on cuts, scrapes and sensitive areas

The penitentiary closed in 2013, and tours are now available that “offer a rare and unique opportunity to go behind the walls of Canada’s oldest and most notorious maximum security prison.”

Actually a collection of short stories about a group of older Boy Scout/Explorer Scouts with a slant toward sciences and applied physics, many of which appeared originally in Boys Life magazine in the 1960s (I would have been about twelve or so at the time)

  9. Heart of Asia: True Tales of the Far East, by Roy Chapman Andrews

Andrews is commonly called ‘the real Indiana Jones’ today. I started reading his books for kids like All About Dinosaurs before getting into the stories of his expeditions. My favorite quote of his, which I remember from more than fifty years ago (it may not be from Heart of Asia) is:

“Personally, I loathe to see a man beheaded”.
