Please forgive me for playing two in a row, but I needed to do so in order to set up this (true!) story.
I was my parents’ first child, and when my mom was pregnant with me it was a given that I would be named after my dad, William Henry (last name). Back in the mid-1950s, of course, there was no amniocentesis or ultrasound procedure to determine the unborn child’s gender, so my mom broached the possibility that they just might have a girl. As the story goes, my dad, without missing a beat, stated, “Then her name will be Wilhelmina Henrietta!”
I am SO glad I was born male!!
