A player from my home town – Damian Miller – was on that team. Interestingly enough, his name does not appear on any of the ‘official’ championship memorabilia – or even video games like the Nintendo Gamecube’s MVP Baseball – authorized by the Major League Baseball Players Assn, as he was a minor leaguer who agreed to be a replacement player in 1994 during the MLBPA strike and was barred from joined the union after being called up for real in 1997. Kind of petty on the part of the MLBPA, to my way of thinking – especially since Miller never played in 1994 (the strike was settled), and since there were three years that passed between the year he was willing to cross the picket line and when he was called back up by the Minnesota Twins.

On the other hand, if you go into a certain restaurant in West Salem, WI (a suburb about five miles from La Crosse, where he went to high school) there’s a huge display of pictures, autographed bats, and what-have-you still on display.
