The Gubmint, apparently not having read about the Boaty McBoatface fiasco, has asked the public’s help in naming the two new eaglets. Heaven help us all.
It’s all right. You’re limited to several paired options: Redirecting...
Oh, god. The name choices are indescribably cheesy. I think I’d prefer Birdy McBirdface and something else as serious options.
There are or were a pair of peregrine falcons known as Frodo and Frida who nest on a residential skyscraper a few hundred yards from where I’m sitting right now. They were on webcam from at least about 2005, but maybe since 2003. I haven’t been able to find a more definite date.
I also haven’t been able to find updated information on them. I suspect they would be dead of natural causes by now, since they only live for about ten years and they have definitely been around Brisbane since 2003 or earlier.
Actually I’ve just found confirmation that the Frodo/Frida webcam started in 2003.
Very cool, thanks for this, EH. For any dopers near St. Louis who are nature or eagle fans, you may to check out the Bald Eagle Viewing Days at Pere Marquette State Park in the winter months. A fantastic experience.

The mom hasn’t been around for hours today , has anyone seen her ? I am getting worried b/c some assholes are going around poisoning the eagles .
Where’s my asshole poison? I know I’ve got some around here somewhere…
Yeah some damn assholes been killing off the eagles and I don’t think it’s funny !
Are you one of the assholes ???
Let’s avoid calling names outside of the BBQ Pit, it’s against the rules.
The eaglets, now named Freedom and Liberty, are getting big. Glad to see them thriving.
My emphasis.
The American public is nothing if not boring and predictable.
Agreed. Freedom and Liberty, that s just gratuitous.
People were give names to vote for , I am sure if people could had send in names they would been more creative .
Yes. See post 42.
Just before I left town, Pittsburgh’s eagles made the national and international news; some would say in not a good way.
Personally I am neither repulsed or surprised. Between the various cams around the country it really was pretty much a matter of time.
Freedom has taken her first short flight from the National Arboretum’s nest: Young eagle ‘Freedom’ fledges nest at National Arboretum - WTOP News
Which one is visible on camera B? Looks like they have been on that branch for several days! At least today, they have turned around so they can see that they aren’t that far from the nest. I can anthropomorphize that eaglet yelling "MAMA!! Come help me!! MAMA!! I’m hungry!!
Has the other eaglet been spotted? (I haven’t signed in to go to the chat room, only been watching the cameras. It’s been fun!
Dunno. One of the juveniles is very close to the camera right now - close enough to bump it with his/her head, it looks like!
Here’s another bald eagle cam, since the D.C. one is now defunct: https://www.facebook.com/MySuncoast.com.ABC7/videos/vb.107410009289309/1391621040868193/?type=3&theater
