Bald eagle roadkill

So this morning I saw something I’ve not seen before. A bald eagle roadkill. I’ve seen bald eagles and other raptors swoop into traffic on the freeway to scavenge a bit of carcass, and just last week I saw one that cut it pretty close. The one I saw this morning just wasn’t quick enough.

My wife’s dad (now deceased) used to tell the story of the time he hit one with a Cessna, and made an emergency landing with pieces of eagle carcass embedded in the wing. Fish and Wildlife tried to prosecute him for killing it, but quit when they couldn’t prove the strike was intentional.

Vultures are a problem where I live, and many times I’ve come within inches of hitting one. I think that day is coming…

What a shame; they’re beautiful birds. Suggest you call your local fish and wildlife office ASAP and let them know where it is. I believe it’s a Federal offense to retain any part (especially the feathers) of a bald eagle.

There are enough State Police, Sheriffs, Border Patrol, Dept of Trans, etc. up here that I’m sure they know about it by now.
