Thank you!
Did you guys keep Gale as Evocation or make him a different school?
My general inclination is not to mess with origin subclasses. My own mind canon kind of thinks of later multi-classing as mostly fair game (though in practice I’m usually not inclined to bother, especially with casters), but futzing about with the background is verboten. Since it isn’t an insanely difficult min-maxing game (so far as I can tell at this point), I don’t really see a need and I feel like giving Larian the leeway on the background.
ETA: Though honestly of all the backgrounds, changing Gale to a different subclass seems like by far the least disruptive alteration. Evocation? Conjuration? Eh.
I generally prefer to play games as the good guy, who saves the children and de-escalates fights and so on. So I’m likely to have a party with Gale, Shadowheart, and Wyll (at least to begin); with me as a bard, this gives pretty decent coverage of everything.
Except lockpicking, sneaking, and trapwrangling. Astarion is such an asshole, but he’s so useful.
My bard may need to pick up a level or two of rogue, at this point.
I’m also a little concerned about inspiration. I took the Dark Urge background, but that apparently means I get inspiration by being a sadistic asshole, which isn’t my playstyle. Do I just play through the game uninspired?
Locks and Traps are both Sleight of Hand which should be decent just based on your Dex. I assume you have decent Dex as a bard.
I picked Criminal for my background for purely mechanical reasons (free stealth/deception on my rogue) and didn’t even look at any Inspiration riders. Uhhh… steal stuff, I guess?
Edit: Reading the Act One inspiration triggers for Criminal on the BG3 Wiki, it looks like I won’t have a ton of inspiration either ![]()
Yes he is. I like his backstory though. He’s also much less annoying than Lae’zel.
Your other group members can pick up inspiration as well, and it’s a group resource.
I must’ve missed Gale, though. I wonder if potential party members will show up again later.
Well, Gale picks his subclass at level 2, so I don’t know if Evocation is actually more "canon"ish than anything else? I went with Abjuration because it felt like it matches his personality (from the little I’ve seen so far).
Ugh, this is always my problem with these games - too many characters I enjoy having as companions! I’ve been running with my bard, Shadowheart, Gale, and Astarion. But from a roleplaying perspective, Lae’Zel has the most solid lead for me at the moment. So I’m probably going to end up adding her to my party temporarily but I can’t decide who to remove!
Once I follow her lead I know I will meet Wyll on the way too, and he’s another character I wanted to interact with! Gaaah!
I would strongly suggest that if a Mod happens by to create a gameplay(spoilers) thread to split out from this anticipation /tech details thread. Things are getting very open spoily.
Yeah, Inspiration is based on background and Dark Urge always has that evil background…
I’m gonna do a Dark Urge playthrough eventually, as a Necromancer. But he’ll be an absolutely, completely, irredeemably evil bastard (think Xykon from Order of the Stick) who should find plenty of inspiration and won’t really bother trying to resist the Urge (unless it’s in his personal interest to do so).
What point is there in an anticipation/tech thread now that the game is out and playable? I think the thread’s purpose has shifted, as do most game threads upon release.
Please hold off on open spoilers here, I have asked for a spoilers gameplay thread to be created.
PS5 Is a month off, and Xbox has no schedule yet? Is a tiny bit of consideration for other people that much of a burden?
You can make such a thread on your own. No need for a mod.
I don’t think theres much call for discussion about the PS5 or XBOX versions in the meantime, but if you have anything to say about them I think your best bet would be a dedicated thread. It doesn’t make sense to turn the main Baldur’s Gate 3 thread into a “Gee, I can’t wait for the PS5 release!” “Me neither!” thread.
I am aware that I can. But was asking for an official mod split of splitting the thread into a gameplay spoilers, because, I am not a missive dick and was seeing the progression, and trying to get ahead of it before there was a major effort to split gameplay, and discussion , but please go ahead, try to give yourselves more work and piss on me like I am an idiot, and and don’t forget spoil the game fore more people,
iIam so sorry I didn’t make it clear that I was aware I could throw more threads out there, mea Culpa
I simply wanted a mod to officially post that that thread was for general discussion, which will almost certainly be searched and found later in later release(e.g.PS5, not to mention PC players who can watch during the week). And there should be separate thread for game play discussions that have already entered into major Spoiler territory in this single thread.
I have seen it here before as the standard for major releasese.
Since a mod has renamed this thread to say “finally released”, I doubt they will come in here to tell us not to talk about post-release content. But until they show up and weigh in, I suggest we drop this line of discussion.
Minor Shadowhear spoiler question:
In EA I remember that when I met Shadowheart at the entrance to the crypt we had a conversation where I learned she was a Shar worshipper and could call her out on Shar being evil. This time her deity has not come up in conversation yet, even after a long rest and some personal discussion. Has anyone had this line of discussion come up?
I’m also curious to see how much of a good person she ends up being. Like @Left_Hand_of_Dorkness, I am playing as a goody two shoes, and I’ve been getting along with Shadowheart and keeping her in my party. But eventually I think Shar will get in the way…
