That is disappointing about the rope. I had assumed there would be places I couldn’t easily climb without it or a pulley system that could be repaired with it.
I agree the inventory management could use a tweak. I hate needing to swap team members to grab the item I accidentally left on someone at camp. Being at camp should let me see everyone’s inventory at once and grab what I need from a single screen
Also, I should have the option to sort items by latest, weight, etc from the team screen rather than switching back to character sheet.
I wish I could talk to the Owlbear cub.
But overall, it’s pretty fantastic. I’d put it 2nd to Elden Ring for top games I’ve played in the last few years.
You just need one character with the spell Speak with Animals. Or use a potion.
I tried it several times but each time it just switches back to my main character who doesn’t have speak with animals. Then it coos at me. It works correctly with scratch. I’m guessing this is a bug then.
Yeah, I had the same thing with the cub. It just bounces character back to you when you talk. Can always use a potion or scroll though.
That does sound like a bug. Can you talk to Withers with non-avatar characters?
Yeah, although I do save a lot, I load much less often. I will save at a few points in major battles if I seem to be doing well, and reload in case of TPK or if it seems inevitable. And very occasionally, I’ll save-scum for decisions that I really want to go one way. But mostly I don’t, or use the normal inspiration system. Sometimes I’ll reload if a conversation goes contrary to what I intended (because the dialogue was wonky or I misread it or whatever).
Same. If I know we’re all going to die I don’t play it out. If I accidentally click on a firewine barrel thinking it’s a loot barrel and the gith kill 3 of my party before we get a turn, I’ll also reload.
Also same. “Is Gale hitting on me or just super friendly?” Or the first time I asked Shadowheart to stay in camp. “Ok yes, on second thought I’ve changed my mind. I’ll disappoint someone else.”
Speaking of flirting that I did not expect (Act 3 spoiler):
The Emperor–in Mindflayer form–showed up shirtless and thought I might be up for some tentacle action. I guess because I held his hand at one point? I politely declined that offer.
I also got an offer from Mizora, but that didn’t surprise me as much.
I read on another forum (slight spoiler about a particular companion): Scratch as an animal companion can Help Downed characters by giving a sloppy doggy kiss.
That’s where you save scum. There’s an achievement for going through with that!
I save scum any time I think of a better tactic. Right now I’m in Act II, and I’m
Assassinating my way through the Moonrise Tower. At some point my attacking one of the villains triggered the Oathbreaker paladin stuff. I don’t want that, so I reloaded. At another point, I realized it made more sense for me to close a door before unloading on a particular villain, so I reloaded and did that.
Basically, if I think it makes for a more interesting fight, I’ma reload. I got no shame.
Achievements are public information, man! I can’t have that shit on my permanent record. What if I want to be a Supreme Court justice one day? Imagine the Congressional hearings.
Having finished the game, I’ve been poking at an evil run with the Dark Urge origin. The narration you get there is veeery creepy at times and kinda makes me wish I’d played one of the other origins on my first run for whatever custom narrative (and presumably additional character insight) would’ve been included.
Haven’t gotten the option to eat tadpoles yet but I’m gonna be sucking them down like linguini as soon as that opens up. I completely avoided all that stuff on my good playthrough.
If you are going to instantly start over a new playthrough I strongly recommend you switch around everyone’s party roles, because any of them can do any job just as good but their voice lines still act like they are not any good at it. Gale as a sneaky thief is hilarious, Karlach is adorable as a monk.
I started my Evil character but just going Custom again. The BG3 devs said that they recommended Custom for your first play since you’ll have better appreciation for the origin stories if you know who they are from the outside first. Dark Urge just doesn’t really appeal to me for some reason. I guess I’m going more ruthless and power-hungry than killkillkillkill… echoing in my noggin.
Supposedly my character is some arrogant Lloth-sworn drow noble but you wouldn’t guess that by seeing the faces he pulls in the early game about basic stuff. Only just started and made it to the Grove to get what I want before… (Sorry, Alfira and Mol…)
You know that meme of “Tired, going to sleep, brain says something, wide awake”?
Me:“Im tired, played for six hours.”
Me: “I’ll figure out a way to beat those robots tomorrow. I’ very sleepy”
Brain: “Why don’t you have one guy hit them with a barrel of water and another guy freeze them”
Me: (Wide awake)
A semi random observation: I have been googling things about the game for help with places where I am stuck and it seems like big chunk of the sites you find appear to be using AI to write their articles. Or at least they read that way. Also you will see the exact same text in multiple sites either because they are plagiarizing or using the same AI as a source. It’s interesting where these things have gone.
I remember calling a 900 number for hints on the Sierra Hint line (I am old).
Well, don’t delete all of your Game One save files, I guess. From the official BG3 forums…
Potential Spoiler Material in Community Rep Statement
We’ve seen three types of complaints that are being referred to as cut content:
The first references content that actually doesn’t properly trigger because of a bug, for instance some of Minthara’s reactivity. We’ve located what’s causing that and are working on it - expect a fix for this soon.
The second is about the epilogue. What’s been datamined is not really cut content but content that we didn’t want to release because we didn’t think it worked. We’re pretty strict with ourselves and our ideas. If it isn’t good - if it isn’t fun to play - it doesn’t make it into the game. One of the reasons why we trimmed the epilogue is because we were afraid the ending cinematics were becoming too long and would detract from the epicness of the experience. But clearly, not everyone agrees with us! So we’re going to do something about it.
We’ve started expanding the epilogues and you’ll see the first results of that in Patch 2 with the addition of a new optional ending with Karlach. It’s fiery, poignant, and gives her the ending she deserves.
The third is about the things we actually didn’t plan for, and those we once considered but ultimately didn’t do.
It was always our intention for the Upper City to be an epic, cinematic epilogue bringing the story of Baldur’s Gate 3 to a close. But we didn’t talk about that in advance because it would have been a major spoiler.
We feel confident that there’s enough content in Baldur’s Gate 3, and the city itself, clocking in weeks-long playthroughs at a time. But that’s not to say Baldur’s Gate 3 didn’t see cuts just as every game. It’s just important to know that what ultimately shipped was planned long ago, in function primarily of making Baldur’s Gate 3 fun to play, not for us to close development quickly.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is a game with many release dates, and despite us moving its launch up by around a month, it’s still a couple years late. It was late because we grew teams, ambition, and ideas in function of it being the best game it could possibly be. Thankfully, not every idea makes it into the final launch. It wouldn’t be the game you enjoy if they did.
Also, they’re going to add a feature where you can take ‘abandoned’ multiplayer characters in your camp and literally stuff them into a wardrobe until their players come back ![]()
End game spoilers I guess
The upper city content was still being talked about by the lead dev a month before release in the famous “panel from hell”. It is still being talked about as a featured zone in the community update from June 12th. And the reason they are updating the epilogue for Karlach is because you literally cannot get a good ending for her because it involved the upper city. So pardon me if I call bullshit on all that.
