Ballys Gym (Heart Attack)

I was working out yesterday at my local gym located in a sub of Detroit, Michigan when someone had a massive heart attack right during one of those arobic classes (He was a young guy in his thirties). What was even more confusing was that fact that no staffers new CPR and they didn’t have a defib. machine on hand. You would think that they would be required to have medical equipment on hand or staff with CPR training located somewhere in the building.

When the EMS arrived the first thing they did was shock him and then they performed CPR for around 10-15 minutes but all was to late for the guy.

Makes you think twice about going and working out at a Ballies where medical equipment or staff with medical training is hard to find.

SCARY!!

I’m sure this will get moved to another category, but here goes anyway - EVERYONE should know CPR. Take the class, you’ll be glad you did. You learn how to do the Heimlich maneuver and other stuff, too. Well worth the time and money spent. In most cases, any response from trained bystanders will do more good than no response. Time is crucial, if you wait for EMS to arrive it will probably be too late.

Yeah, they should have defibrillators in gyms. No doubt they will soon now that this happened.
