In the continuing saga of my falling into one hell of a great job, my presence has been requested at sales training in Towson, MD at the end of this month. Though I have been to our nation’s capital once, I was about nine months old and have only hazy memories of the Washington Monument looking like a really big baby bottle and getting hungry (and my mother tells me that we met Col. Sanders at the airport leaving); therefore, I have booked my flight for as early as possible the day before the training begins so that I can go see all the touristy stuff everyone should see.
Hence my confusion. I will have no car and I don’t know that I want to pay a cab for an hour’s ride. Are there commuter trains from Towson to DC? Where would I get one? What will it cost? How late do they run? Etc., etc. (to quote Yul Brenner). After all, I don’t want to become the Little Lost Doper!
Thank you for your assistance in this and all related matters, excepting those which might cause any legal liability for any involved parties, in which case, I’ll see you in front of Judge Judy, Judge Mills, or Judge Joe. (Can’t you just see it?)
What we come up with from our house is that the best bet would be a bus to downtown Baltimore to either Camden Yards or Penn Station, then take the MARC train to DC. Have fun! And we’re only 20 minutes or so from Towson, give us a call!
Yeah, and once you get to DC, you can take Metro (the subway, but if you call it that no one will know what you mean) all over by getting a one day pass, although you can’t use this during the times they consider “rush hour” I think. Metro can take you to all the tourist stuff in DC like the Smithsonian, etc. Check out Metro’s website: http://www.wmata.com/metrorail/default.cfm
So you can’t use it during the morning rush, although apparently the evening rush is hunky-dory.
I would highly recommend this if you plan on seeing more than one thing - even if you had a car, it’d be tough to find a place to park. The Metro does go to just about anything in DC that you’d wanna see.
booklover, I am staying in Towson, but I’m getting into town early so I can go to DC for the afternoon and evening on Sunday before I have to spend every waking moment in sales-training lockdown the rest of the week.
