Yes, the new film by Spike Lee. I’m very anxious to see this one because from what I’ve heard, it’s supposed to be his most incisive statement to date on race in America and in the entertainment media. If you haven’t heard about it yet, it kind of a riff on “The Producers” with a TV studio putting together a blackface minstrel type show hoping it will fail, but surprised when it succeeds.
It was supposed to open on October 20th (according to the IMDb) but for some reason NOBODY in this area is showing it! Are distributors scared of this flick because of the subject matter? Is this going to be relegated to the “art-house” circuit? Or did I just get the dates wrong?
[blatant hijack]
I just finished reading Carl Hiassen’s latest, “Sick Puppy” and was reading the list of other books he’s written. Unbeknownst to me he has written some non-fiction. One title immediately caught my eye and I thought of you!
“Team Rodent: How Disney Devours the World”
Here’s a link for ya:

…now back to your regular program…
That gets my award for most unrelated hijack. Ever.
No idea about the movie.
Let me further the hijack by saying that “Team Rodent” is an excellent and quick read, and essential for any Disney fan.
Now, back to the show!
Don’t know where you live Euty, but here in SF it opened at the major theaters last Friday. I’m probably going to see it this weeked. The reviews I’ve read are mixed, basicaly saying that Lee doesn’t go far enough, but I’m anxious to see it. I’ll let you know
In my part of the world, it is not in wide release, but the theatres at which it is playing are not the “art-house” theatres either. It will probably be hard to find after the first couple of weeks, so see it now if it’s on your list.
Oh, I’m with you one THIS one, Euty!
I’ve been looking forward to this ever since I heard it was in production!
Brendan Fraser is turning into QUITE the comic lead actor, isn’t he? And Elizabeth Hurley, what is there to say but Ooh-la-la! What a bodacious babe!
What? Oh.
