Bananas at the US Open

At the US Open the other day, Muresmo had a banana during the change over between games at the suggestion of her father. How quickly can the body synthesize the nutrients from said banana, and what particular benefits would it provide?

Bananas are comparatively high in potassium, which is lost during sweating and they have a low glycemic index which means they won’t spike your blood sugar, so they make a good snack during moderate exercise.

Figure a minimum of 20 minutes for sucrose/glucose absortion to begin with complete digestion from a few hours to a day depending on how you look at it.

Yes… I have heard it said that bananas are the “perfect food”. Smart (and handy) packaging, relatively quick as well as medium term energy supply… and a very good source of potassium.

Whoever came up with that product did a great job!

But with all good things comes the bad.
If you are walking down the street and slip on a banana peel, you will do a 360 in the air, fall flat on your back, and little birds will be flying around your head.
