I used to boycott the band Modest Mouse because I absolutely detested the name they chose. Now I boycott them because their music sucks.
Same deal with Good Charlotte.

Green Day didn’t do a song for the RIAA campaign. They did a song for a Pepsi commercial that was advertising free music downloads with purchases, using people who’d been caught downloading music.
On topic: I can’t really say that I boycott anything, as long as I enjoy the music. (I suppose you could say that I boycott anything I don’t like to listen to.) I will say that I get much less enjoyment out of my Harry Chapin albums, now that I know how much a fruitcake the guy was.

Er, sorry. The URL.
Love their music, but the attitude thing has gone on a bit long. And I really don’t want to get gobbed on, either.
I boycott Bon Jovi. I just don’t like them. No particular reason.
I think there’s a distinction between boycotting a band and not buying their albums because you don’t like their music. I mean, when the topic of good charlotte, simple plan, or all dashboard confessional comes up, all I have to say is “they suck.” But only the used will send me into a rant about the prickitude of their singer.
Alleged? So, basically, you’re saying he’s guilty until proven innocent? No actual charges were ever brought against him so I’d be suspicious of the accusation’s veracity.
I boycott most of todays band’s. I don’t buy their albums (listen to them on XM and use Raphsody) and I don’t buy concert tickets (too expensive and for the bands I do want to see I get free tix if I go to DC) Most of today’s bands are only in nit for the music and not art
I would hope so, as opposed to being in it for the fame and fortune!
Kudos, although I gave Gravity a whirl at home last week, I must confess. I boycott Jackson Browne for the same reason.
I strongly recommend never wasting your time or money on seeing Cat Power live.
Her recorded music on the other hand is absolutely brilliant.
Is Gary Glitter’s Rock N Roll pt 2 still played at every stadium? I mean after his kiddy-porn charges? Seems a good place to start a boycott (cool song, though).
If it bothers you to listen to his music because of what he did, then more power to you.
Some people probably boycott some musicians based on the drugs they did, the causes they espouse, or whatever. I generally try to differentiate between the musicians as people and the music they make.
I’m with you on this one, although I put my cut-off a bit later…
I really liked most of Up and managed to enjoy a lot of Reveal. I had to think of them as being a totally different band to do it, though, especially with the latter. I saw them live in October of '03, and I really liked the show…but still, it was clear after Reveal that they didn’t really have anything left. I let my fan club membership lapse and didn’t see them last fall. And I wish they’d break up already; the last album was plumb awful.
Which is to say: I can take anything up to and (probably) including Up and call them my favorite band, but I have to ignore the other stuff, and I won’t be buying anything else.
The case never went to trial. If you believe in “innocent until proven guilty,” you’ve gotta give the guy a pass.
