From what I read, Husker Du seems to have that Q rating of 99.999999.
WordMan: Madison Avenue’s song was huge in Australia, and then they performed at the Australian Recording Industry Association Awards and everyone discovered that her voice was pretty terrible. They went on to release a string of forgettable singles, and I’m pretty sure they’ve broken up.
It’s one of the b-sides on the “Turn” single.
There’s a band from Scotland called Idlewild that have somehow yet to break over here, even though their last album made a bunch of critics’ best-of-year lists. Their new album is even better, and comes out stateside Tuesday. Highly recommended.
Noodles you are so right about XTC being too smart!
Too bad Virgin Records was so dumb!!
I’ll add my other most fav band (besides XTC) to the list of the obscure should-have-beens, The Waterboys.
Being from the land of Replacements and Husker Du I’ll agree with those too… would their have been a Nirvana without the influences of Bob Mould & Paul Westerberg??
I have to agree with rmbnxs on Richard Thompson. I just saw him live about two months ago, just him and and his guitar. I was mesmerized for an hour and a half. The man is amazing.
Haven’t seen Wilco or Brave Combo mentioned yet.
