After all the interpersonal squabbles over the years it was nice to see them back on stage together. A wonderful moment for everyone in attendance that night.
Looks like I’m seeing BEAT, featuring two members of King Crimson, plus Steve Vai and Terry Bozzio. I’m not a huge fan of King Crimson, but I’ve been listening to a bunch of KC and BEAT, I’m getting excited for the show.
My wife and I are going to Berkeley this weekend to see two days of garage rock bands. A day before these shows were announced, we booked an October trip to Tokyo partly so I could see some “Back to the Grave” shows there in Shinjuku. The Stompin’ Riffraffs and the Highmarts were two of the bands I had hoped to see at the Halloween Ball there, so this will be a nice appetizer. The Phantom Surfers are technically the only band I have seen before, but most of these musician play in several different garage bands under different personas (which is why masks are so common…beside just being fun).
I’m curious how many dopers recognize any of the bands on the posters below.
Caught the Guess Who in Las Vegas this weekend. We fell into comped tickets, so decided to go. Good decision! Don Felder opened for them, with Don Amato (REO Speedwagon) on second guitar. Then it was basically a selection of favorites from the Guess Who and Bachman-Turner Overdrive. Burton was in fine voice, and Randy can still play up a storm, even if he did spend the entire concert perched on a stool. Don’t even want to guess the median age of the audience (Guys, it’s time to retire the ponytails. You’re bald - deal with it!)
Burton pointed out that he’s known Randy for 61 years! And they’re still playing together and having a blast.
