Saw Julien Baker tonight at her last night of residency at the Middle East in Cambridge (MA), and she and her band were incredible. One of the best shows of the last few years for me.
I saw Tedeschi Trucks Band earlier this evening. Fantastic as always!
Last weekend I saw more than 50 underground, punk, garage, retro, and surf bands in Tokyo during the Back from the Grave Halloween Ball. Standouts were the Wraylettes form Australia, the Applicators from Austin, Operation S from France, Doc Burner from Spain, and the Stompin’ Riff-Rafs, Quincampoix, the Highmarts, the Fuzzyama Surfers, and the Titans from Japan. There was an outrageous punk band from Oakland with a scantily clad fully tattooed female singer called Damage Party that just left the Japanese audience stunned. Their music isn’t my cup of tea but the effect on the audience was priceless.
I saw Thrown Into Exile, Crypta, Septic Flesh, The Black Dhalia Murder, and Arch Enemy last night. It was amazing. All the bands killed it. Septic Flesh was great despite missing their main guitarist. Lauren Hart fit right into Arch Enemy, the band she credits for making her realize there is a place for women in metal.
