I saw this gif yesterday of thousands of ducks storming down the street. Turns out, it’s just a fragment of a two and half minute army of ducks that took to the street in some sort of mass protest.
Here’s the gif -
Here’s the far more impressive video -
They just keep coming! It’s like all the dead ducks in Bangkok have risen are seeking their revenge!
Where are they going? Why? What do they want? How can they stopped? Siam Sam! What’s the story here?
**"Most netizens said they liked how the ducks were parading in an organised manner and that motorists were patient with the birds and did not run them over.
“Some said the drivers were probably seng ped, or bored. Seng ped literally means a boring duck in Thai. The slang is often used to express boredom or being fed up with something or someone.”**
Were they perhaps being somehow herded along somehow? I thought the woman and kid in the break in the duck flow might have been shooing them along somehow, but you would think it would take a lot more people.
Yes, the story I linked to said it was just a farmer getting them to cross the road in search of food.
As a side note, I said this occurred in Nakhon Pathom province. If you’ve ever watched The Killing Fields, then you’ve seen Nakhon Pathom. That’s where they filmed the scene where the American diplomats including one played by Spalding Gray were evacuated. In the background of that scene, the Phra Pathommachedi, the tallest stupa in the world at 127 meters (417 feet), can clearly be glimpsed.
EDIT: Hey, can we get a Mod to fix the spelling of Bangkok in the OP’s title?
Oh, bugger. Sorry about the spelling error! Please, do, fix it! Thanks for your thoughts, Sam.
I wouldn’t have thought a person could move that many ducks around without more guides or beaters. I was hoping they’d finally show the guy behind the exodus.
I thought this, too, but then you can see there’s a whole third battalion of ducks coming up behind them. It was like they knew the route.
I haven’t seen that many duck operations in Thailand. But I have seen some duck herding on Bali, and it doesn’t take many people to herd them. But I’ve not seen anything on that scale before.
Surely it takes divine powers to get that many ducks in a row.
By the way, those ducks are adorable, not revolting. Once plucked and hung by the neck inside a glass box all day long on a street food stall they do, indeed, become quite revolting.
