While cruising around the net, I stopped at www.aljazeera.com to see things from a different perspective. It’s an interesting site unto itself, but this post is about something I saw there. A banner ad for www.middleoffice.com caught my eye. It had a smiling picture of Yasser Arafat with the caption of “Guess Where I Keep My Money?” Clicking on it takes you to http://www.middleoffice.com/accounts.htm.

Swiss bank accounts are notorious for being used for less than honorable intentions, but COME ON! Advertising on your web site? Is this stuff on the application form itself? “Reason for opening account (check one): Tax Evasion Money Laundering White Collar Crimes (specify: embezzlement phishing fractional penny theft like taking the pennies from the tray or like they did in Superman III)”
Do you have to pass an interview to see if your criminal offense is serious enough that they wouldn’t take your money?
I’m waiting for the whoosh. There are typos on the page so maybe it’s a joke… Is www.aljazeera.com, the source for the link, actually an Onion-like parody? I mean, WTF?
Thank you! Much better. I also googled some stuff on middleoffice.com and the only things I found were posts made to hacking sites and newsgroups by someone in that domain.
I’d love to give my money to an institution like that. I also like how they use the term “ripped off.” As if a thousand terrorists suddenly went, “hell yeah, our assets got froze like hell! Screw US banks, we got ripped off. Let’s go there. Stick it to the infidel.”
Coincidentially, I’m looking for a new bank now…(hey, it’s all legit!).
