I won’t do business with BofA. I had a car loan through them. They refused to credit my account for three to five business days because my checking account wasn’t through them. So even though I paid it on time, they would not show the payment as received until the check cleared Plus, since my mom was co-signing (it was my first car ever), it was affecting her credit as well. I ended up going in and paying cash. My mom went with me when I paid it off in full. The teller was unbelievably rude. I wasn’t surprised, it was pretty much the standard attitude I’d received from all BofA tellers. But my mother was shocked. She told the young snot she wasn’t impressed with his attitude. He merely shrugged and sneered. I told my mother “Don’t bother complaining to the manager. We’ll just make sure everyone we know with a BofA account switches banks.”
I go through a small local bank chain. I love it. I know the tellers, they know me, and I actually get personal service. Last year when a check got to them a day before my deposit did, they called me and told me they could hold it until the end of the day if I could deposit some cash. And when I made an internet purchase from a company in the U.K., they called me just to make sure it was really me that made the purchase. I WON’T go back to a big corporate bank, and YOU CAN’T MAKE ME!!!
I’m only staying with them until an issue gets cleared up, and then we’re switching and I’m going to spread the word to everyone I know to stay the hell away from BoA.
Someone got hold of DH’s checkcard number and used it to pay their cell phone bill to the tune of nearly $400. Because DH and I are both also customers of that cell phone company (hell, I work for them, too), we’re considered to have an ‘exisiting relationship’ and our dispute keeps getting rejected. Great - so some fucktard can use our account to pay his bill to that company, and we have to be punished for it because we just happen to have phones through them too? Christ, I hope nobody gets hold of mine and goes on a spree at Chanel, since I bought a lipstick there a few years ago. It’s not like we’ve made a habit of paying random strangers’ bills with our card - we don’t even use the card to pay our bills.
When the first rejection letter came, it was dated Oct. 21, but we didn’t get it til the 26th, and we discovered that we had a day from when we actually got it to get prepared to have the temporary credit taken out of our account. Then it got rejected again because apparently that claim shouldn’t have been sent to their fraud dept. for investigation; it should have gone to ‘merchandising’ or some shit. And that’s my fault how, exactly? They didn’t even bother to inform us that they’d rejected it again this time; we thought they were still looking into it until I called for an update.
I did talk to someone yesterday who took down more detail about the whole fiasco than I’ve been asked to give before, and the people I’ve dealt with in person at our branch have been as helpful as they can, so we’re hoping that something will actually get done, but we’re definitely shopping for a new bank so we can get the hell out once this is resolved.
I never claimed to be a good typist or a good proofreader. But, for an overdraft surcharge of $30, I’ll feel nearly anyone. :o
I’ve got a gold master card from BofA. Never had any problems.
For my regular banking, I use a credit union and have overdraft protection.
Commerce Bank is wonderful. I was with them for about two years whilst in the Philly/South Jersey area and had NO complaints.
Now, living in Maryland, my only complaint is that the nearest branch is in Delaware!
I’ve been a BofA customer for … well, shoot, truckloads of years, and I’ve never had any problems with them.
Of course, it helps that I do most of my stuff on-line, so I can verify my own transfers and payments, and not have to rely any more than necessary on the frazzled, overworked, heavily-supervised minimum-wage tellers behind the counter.
Like the OP, I cash my payroll check at BOA weekly since it is drawn on their bank. Luckily, since my employer is one of their biggest national accounts, I don’t have to pay the $5.00 fee.
However, I HATE going to that bank every Friday. They have the most ANNOYING greeting person there…it’s pretty much the same woman every week, and EVERY week she asks me if I want to open up an acct, after all, I would get FREE direct deposit, FREE internet banking, FREE debit card, free free free! For the love of chicken shakers in hell GIVE IT A REST ALREADY.
I usually just say, “No, thank you”, but then she’ll say, “well, who are you banking with now?” Still trying to be nice I say “Oh, I don’t have a bank acct” (avoiding eye contact with all my might). Sometimes she will push even further with “It only takes a few minutes to apply”. It’s so aggravating!!! Sometimes even the tellers will make a pitch for me to open an account. One of the girls I work with who cashes her checks at the same bank (they are right across the street from our office) says they do the same thing to her every week, too!
Then, when walking out, the greeter always asks, “Would you like a cookie?” “No thank you” “Are you sure? They’re free!!” EVERY WEEK!!!
These annoyances alone prevent me from wanting to open an acct with BOA even if I could get approved for one. But the longer I go without a bank account the less I feel I will ever get one again. Once they get your money they will come up with whatever fees necessary to keep as much of it as they can.
I honestly can’t remember the last time I cashed a payroll check.
I can’t remember the last time I’ve actually seen one of my payroll checks in paper form, what with electronic deposit and all. Maybe 1988?
Never dealt with BoA as a bank but they suck as a mortgage company. Last year they stopped paying my homeowner’s insurance. I didn’t find out until the policy was cancelled until after the fact. I was paying BoA as part of my mortgage payment but they decided to pocket the money. I didn’t have insurance for a month and it wasn’t cleared up until I was able to fight through to the senior vice-president level. We refinanced soon after.
I love Commerce Bank. We have to drive a little farther but it is worth it. And they are open on Sunday.
My first credit union was through my employer - it was convienent having a bank in the building but as I was “financial” I could only enter the building through a certain door - it got to be a pain.
I’ve got a credit union now for savings and refinancing, but I’ve gotten so used to my check card (they don’t have it or online banking) that for now I’m sticking with my Branded bank (mentioned above, no I’m not telling you where I bank).
I have a credit card with BoA. I have poor credit but they gave me a card. I use Commerce Bank NA (The east cost one) for almost all of my banking. I have direct deposit from my employer into the Commerce account then I use automatic bill pay to pay my credit card bills. It’s gotten to to point where I don’t think about it, the money comes in automaticly, and goes out automaticly.
