Banks....You eat your own bullshit security practices

Ok…I got this to say. Banks standards and practices are UTTER BULLSHIT to get more dough outta me. And I am SICK OF IT.

Todays venture came about me getting a tidy little thousand dollar bonus for doing some good work. I go to my bank and deposit, getting the rudimentary ‘hold till the end of the day’ jazz which I agree too.

Next day, I go to ATM to find that my check still has not been cleared so I go into same bank. Seem’s there is some kind of warning that this check may not clear and to wait till the end of day because ‘they are sure it will go ahead’. I call up my boss who says the 1000 dollars was taken out yesterday.

Day 2: I go to find it is not cleared at all and that my bank has cleared checks on the money and now slammed me with insuffiecent funds charge EVEN though the money is being held by them. I go batshit on the teller and about strangle her when I am told that they will hold it for 14 DAYS!!!

Ok you fruitless, dead end job idiot, first you pull the money out and hold it saying there is some kind of trouble even though the check cleared. Then you start charging me because you can’t get that synapses to fire enough to put MY MONEY that YOU are NOW HOLDING ‘for my own protection’ into MY ACCOUNT!

Day 3: I decide to railroad every person I can find so I start with the branch and go up. Finally getting to the person that authorized the hold ‘for security’ (haha!) I run her up the flag and down it and blow my stack at this little trade off:

“So when was this warning put on the account this was taken off of”
“Ummm…5 years ago.”

5 YEARS AGO?!?! 5 freaking years ago that one check bounced due to funds and I AM NOW PAYING FOR IT?!?!?

I read her the riot act and told her not to do me any more favors. She then put the money into my account and took off the bounced check fee, apologizing profusely.

I am really REALLY not liking the banking system in general. The fees are outrageous and it’s getting into ‘well what the hell are you charging me for now’ region with my bank. Damned if I ever have to do more of this (and knowing the utter retards that handle my money, I inevitably will)

Even though you didn’t ask for an “Amen!” I’m giving you one.
A little while back, my bank VISA had some strange charges run through and I called the bank and reported the number stolen and requested the account be frozen until we could figure it out (I was slammed with papers at school). The next day I checked my account on-line and found myself to be about eighty bucks in debt, despite my request that the account be frozen. Ultimately, the bitchy bank lady I talked to told me it was “impossible” that anyone but myself had made these charges, since they were places I shopped at regularly (WTF!!!). Therefore, I was responsible for these charges and the banks subsequent NSF charges…bottom line being that while there were over three hundred dollars in fraudulent charges, I had almost enough money to cover it, less eight dollars. So I was eight dollars in the hole because of the bank’s tardy posting and some stranger with a grocery fetish (or whatever), but ultimately ended up being charged about $125 in bank fees.
The “lady” told me that they would charge me $7 for each suspicious charge I wanted investigated.
What a crock, but I’m 500 miles away, so what am I gonna do about it… Things things can only be resolved face to face, so all I can do is change banks to a local branch. Call me a cynic, but it’s all about the “same shit, different day” credo…
I miss being able to walk right in and go, “Rolf, what the heck is this?” Rolf always made things better.

WTF is it with banks. Turkeys seem to think it’s open season on people, I guess.

Get with a credit union if you can, more info in the above link.
If the check was local and you’ve been with the bank awhile (say a year) there should be no hold for only $1000.

Idiots. :wally

This is the point where you demand to see her boss and read the boss the riot act!

A few years ago, I banked at a major bank. I went in one day to make a deposit. The bank, in it’s infinite wisdom, forgot to post the deposit to my account, until 3 or 4 days later. I went home that day, figuring I had money in my account to cover my bills. I wrote out all the checks for my bills (about 10 or 11 checks) and took them to the various places to pay said bills. A few days later, I start getting bounced check notices. Each one with a $25.00 charge attached. I promptly took my deposit slip back to the bank and prooved to them that I had made the deposit. Their response was that it didn’t post to my account until after my checks came back. I pointed out that they were the ones that didn’t post my deposit which wasn’t my fault. After arguing with the teller and the bank manager for awhile and not getting anywhere, I asked the bank manager who set’s the amount of the fees for bounced checks and why is it so high. She told me that the corporate headquarters sets the fees that the bank charges &the fees are so high “because the federal government says we can, so we do”.

Long story short, I ended up paying over $300 in fees to that outfit, mainly because they turned it over to collections. I didn’t, at the time, figure I could win because my deposit slip “didn’t proove” anything. That was over 10 years ago. Now days, if it happened again, I know how to go postal. And I just might.
