Can a banned Doper be reinstated on the SDMB?
Not that I plan on getting banned…just curious.
It has happened.
If you repent for your sins and ask real nice to be reinstated.
Thay say . . . it usually involves an email to the admin, and a sincere apology in that email. Maybe some penance in the offending thread.
Other than that, since I’ve never been banned, I can’t comment any further.
It has been said that it was spoken of, once, in the dark times. No one knows.
From what I’ve been able to gather (after peering over the cliff’s edge), a lot of it deals with adhering to the SDMB’s written policy. I don’t have big issues with that so much as the appropriateness
of approach in its administration. Still, I’m not too worried about things around these parts. You have to deliberately work quite hard (as I have on rare occasions done) to be shown the door.
As mentioned, people have been reinstated. People have also been rebanned. I’ve seen few unasked for expulsions, trust me.
The answer is: it depends. It depends primarily on the reason for the banning and the contrition of the bannee (and whether the Mods believe him/her). F’rinstance, an accidental infringement of the rules by a new poster who expresses sincere regret would be handled different from deliberate posting of porn sites by someone who rants about how unfair the mods are.
I personally wish that it would depend on the size of the monetary bribe, but so far that’s not been issue. Damn.
